Naoki Hamaguchi says he has heard fans asking for a full-disc version of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, but the physical edition announced so far is a key disc: it contains the opening portion and requires a download for the rest. Hamaguchi says publishing controls the product lineup, while the development team chose this approach rather than compromise the game’s fidelity and quality.
What the physical edition includes
Hamaguchi described the disc as a “key disc” containing the game’s opening. After that, players will be asked to download the remaining game data. The edition therefore is not a complete copy of the game on disc.
The interviews do not specify the exact download size, how installation works offline, or whether the remaining data can be installed from another source. The presence of a disc alone does not establish that the full game can be installed or played without an internet connection.
Why Hamaguchi says a full-disc version was not chosen
In an interview republished by MMO.Net on September 10, 2026, Hamaguchi said the team discussed using a disc configuration like the one for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. He said that approach would have required compromises to fidelity and quality, and that the development team did not want to make them. This is the team’s stated rationale; the interview does not provide a detailed technical breakdown of disc capacity or the specific compromises considered.

Hamaguchi acknowledges the requests, but says publishing decides SKUs
Hamaguchi told Radio Times that he has seen social-media requests such as “Give us a full disc version!” He also described the reported “No disc, no purchase” slogan. These are examples he cited, not evidence of how many players share the view.
He said product lineups and SKUs—the versions and configurations offered for sale—are the publishing team’s responsibility, so his authority over that decision is limited. His role, as he characterized it, is focused on the game’s content and experience. He added that he personally values physical media and used his position to argue for a physical release, while recognizing that some players may object to a disc that depends on a download.

How large is the game?
At Tokyo Game Show 2026, Hamaguchi told Video Games Chronicle the game would “probably” be around 200 GB, while noting that details were still being worked out. Treat that as a provisional estimate, not a final storage requirement. It does not establish the precise download size for the physical edition.
