Yes. Nintendo added the 2005 GameCube RPG Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance to Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics in January 2026. To play it, you need a Nintendo Switch 2 and an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership; it is not available through the original Switch or the base Nintendo Switch Online plan.
How to play Path of Radiance on Switch 2
The game is available through Nintendo’s GameCube Classics subscription library, not as a separate Switch game purchase. Nintendo describes the service as exclusive to Switch 2 and says an active Expansion Pack membership is required. Internet access is needed for online features. The library is not offered in every country, so check local availability and membership terms on Nintendo’s regional pages.

- Use a Nintendo Switch 2. The original Nintendo Switch does not support the GameCube Classics library.
- Have an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. A standard Nintendo Switch Online plan is not enough for GameCube Classics.
- Open Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics on the console and select Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance.
Nintendo’s US announcement labels the game “Regular Price: Free.” That means there is no separate game purchase within the included library; it does not remove the cost of the required console or membership. Nintendo says members can access the classic-game libraries while their membership is active.

What kind of game is Path of Radiance?
Nintendo identifies Path of Radiance as a tactical role-playing game originally released for GameCube in 2005. Its story takes place on Tellius, where beorc and laguz—humans and half-humans—share a history of conflict and mistrust. Ike and his companions become entangled in events that threaten to deepen those divisions.

Nintendo highlights voiced cutscenes, 3D maps, and a battle system with permanent unit loss: a character who falls in battle is gone for good. That consequence makes positioning and careful decisions central to the experience. Nintendo’s listing credits Nintendo and Intelligent Systems and includes the descriptors Blood, Language, Suggestive Themes, and Violence. Ratings and descriptors can differ by region, so check the version displayed locally.
Do you need a GameCube-style controller?
No. Nintendo says its wireless controller modeled on the original GameCube controller is optional, not required. Use the standard controller if that is more comfortable; the GameCube-style pad is a preference for players who want that shape and feel. Availability may vary by region.

Switch 2 subscription or original GameCube copy?
The subscription route is the confirmed way to play the GameCube version through a Nintendo service: it requires Switch 2 and an active Expansion Pack membership. The original GameCube release is a separate retro-purchase route, but its current used price and availability are not established here. The practical choice is whether you prefer subscription access on supported hardware or tracking down the older release, rather than assuming either option is universally cheaper.
