There is no single fix for every Assassin’s Creed Revelations crash. Start by verifying the Steam or Ubisoft Connect installation, disabling overlays, resetting the game’s configuration, and limiting the game to 60 FPS. If the crash happens specifically in Sequence 7, the frame-rate cap is the most targeted fix. Freezes and stuttering may require a temporary CPU-affinity test, while black-screen or rendering problems may justify DXVK as a reversible last resort.
First identify your edition—Steam or Ubisoft Connect—and note whether the failure happens before the menu, during normal gameplay, in a particular sequence, or while loading DLC such as The Lost Archive.
Find your crash pattern first

Assassin’s Creed Revelations is a 2011 32-bit DirectX 9-era game. Its original Steam requirements describe Windows XP/Vista-era hardware and DirectX June 2010, while Ubisoft’s current PC store information lists Windows 10 for its current distribution. Safest fixes, in order
1. Restart the launch chain
Exit the game, Steam, and Ubisoft Connect completely, then restart Windows. Launch the game from the store where you own it rather than using an old desktop shortcut. This can clear a stuck launcher handoff without changing files.

2. Verify the game files
Steam
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click Assassin’s Creed Revelations and choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for the process to finish, then relaunch.
Ubisoft Connect
Open the game’s properties or manage menu in Ubisoft Connect and choose the available file-verification or repair option. Ubisoft changes the exact wording of this interface from time to time, so use the current repair/verification label shown by your client.
Verification is the best first step after an interrupted update, missing executable, or damaged installation. It will not repair a bad configuration, an incompatible overlay, a corrupted save, or a third-party mod.
3. Disable overlays and monitoring tools
Temporarily turn off the Steam and Ubisoft Connect overlays, NVIDIA or AMD overlays, Xbox Game Bar, Discord overlay, MSI Afterburner, RivaTuner Statistics Server, ReShade, recording software, and other DLL-injecting utilities. Test with the game completely unmodified.
Overlays are especially important when testing DXVK: its Windows documentation warns that launchers, GeForce Experience, RTSS, OBS, and some mods can conflict with rendering.
4. Reset the configuration without deleting it
A damaged or incompatible display configuration can crash the game before the main menu. Before changing anything, exit both launchers and back up the game’s save and configuration folders.

- Locate the game’s configuration/save directory.
- Rename the configuration file or folder—for example, add
.oldto its name. - Start the game so it creates fresh settings.
- Reapply resolution, graphics, controller, and audio options one at a time.
Do not rely on one hard-coded AppData path: the location can vary by edition, language, Windows account, and launcher. Rename rather than delete so you can restore the original settings if necessary. Keep saves separate from configuration files and do not overwrite them with downloaded “100%” saves.
5. Test compatibility and administrator settings
- Open the installation folder through Steam or Ubisoft Connect.
- Right-click the game executable and select Properties → Compatibility.
- Test Windows 7 compatibility mode.
- If that fails, test Windows XP Service Pack 3 as a troubleshooting experiment.
- Only if permissions appear to be the problem, test Run this program as an administrator.
Use one change at a time. Compatibility mode can interfere with modern launcher behavior, fullscreen handling, or permissions, and administrator mode is not a performance enhancement.
6. Cap the game at 60 FPS
Set a 60-FPS limit using an in-game option if available, your NVIDIA/AMD/Intel per-game driver settings, or another display-level limiter. Keep the cap in place even if your monitor supports a higher refresh rate.

That does not mean frame rate causes every crash, but it makes a 60-FPS cap a low-risk, symptom-specific test.
Fixes for freezing and stuttering
Test CPU affinity manually
Because Revelations is an old 32-bit title, some modern multi-core systems may behave poorly under particular scheduling conditions. PCGamingWiki documents a CPU-affinity workaround for stuttering and freezing, especially when V-Sync is enabled.

- Launch the game and wait until it is running.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager.
- Open Details.
- Right-click the game process and select Set affinity.
- Temporarily limit it to a small number of logical processors and test the same area again.
Do not assume that “use one core” is universally correct. CPU numbering differs between systems, and restricting the process too aggressively can reduce performance or introduce instability. Task Manager’s setting normally lasts only until the process exits, which makes it useful as a reversible test. If it helps, make any permanent shortcut or batch-file change only after confirming the executable name for your edition and build.
Black screens, cutscene crashes, and missing DLL errors
Repair legacy DirectX components
Modern Windows can support current DirectX while still lacking optional DirectX 9-era components used by older games. If Revelations reports a missing DLL or fails before it renders, install the official Microsoft DirectX End-User Runtime.

Update or roll back the graphics driver
- Install the current driver directly from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel.
- Reboot Windows.
- Test again with every overlay disabled.
- If the problem began immediately after a driver update, test the previous stable driver.
The newest driver is not automatically the best choice for a 2011 game. DXVK’s documentation also recommends vendor drivers and notes that Windows Update drivers may be outdated or lack required Vulkan support.
DXVK: an advanced, reversible workaround
DXVK translates Direct3D calls to Vulkan and can sometimes help with black screens or instability tied to the game’s native DirectX rendering path. It is unofficial on Windows and should come only after file verification, overlay removal, configuration reset, compatibility tests, and driver checks.

Use DXVK safely
- Download it only from the official DXVK releases page.
- Revelations is a 32-bit game, so use the 32-bit DLLs—not the 64-bit set.
- Back up the game folder first.
- Place the required files beside the game executable only.
- Never replace Windows DLLs in
System32orSysWOW64. - Disable overlays, RTSS, OBS, ReShade, and similar injected tools while testing.
If the game becomes less stable, remove only the DXVK files you added and restore your backup. DXVK is a graphics-path experiment, not a solution for launcher authentication, missing DLC, corrupt saves, unsupported hardware, or overlay conflicts. If the base campaign launches but The Lost Archive, bonus content, or Desmond-related content stopped working after a Steam update, do not repeatedly reinstall the entire game or treat it as proof that every copy is broken.
PCGamingWiki reports that a March 26, 2024 Steam change removed ACRPR.exe and affected certain bonus or DLC content. Its page also documents advanced, edition-specific community procedures, including a depot downgrade for The Lost Archive. These are not first-line crash fixes and may depend on owning the relevant DLC.
Do not download ACRPR.exe from an unverified file-hosting site. An executable can contain malware, fail to match your build, or create account and content problems. For missing ownership or entitlements, use Steam support or Ubisoft support rather than replacing executables from unknown sources.
When reinstalling is worthwhile
Reinstall only after verification fails to resolve a genuinely corrupted installation. Back up saves first. A reinstall may leave old configuration files, launcher caches, overlays, or mods behind, so it is not automatically a clean reset. Remove leftover configuration only after confirming which files are settings and which contain saves.

Buying a faster GPU, CPU, SSD, or a paid “PC repair” utility is not a responsible first-line fix for this game. Its historical hardware requirements are very low; the likely issue is compatibility, configuration, rendering, launcher state, or content version.
Know when to contact support
- The game is not recognized as owned.
- Ubisoft Connect cannot authenticate or install the title.
- File verification repeatedly reports the same missing files.
- Several Ubisoft games fail to launch, suggesting a launcher or account problem.
- The crash persists after a clean installation with overlays disabled and fresh configuration.
When reporting the problem, include the edition, Windows version, GPU and driver version, exact crash location, whether the game reaches the menu, and which changes you tested. Ubisoft’s current product information also states that multiplayer and online features are unavailable, so troubleshooting cannot restore those services.

Does Assassin’s Creed Revelations officially support Windows 11?
The original PC requirements predate Windows 10 and Windows 11, while Ubisoft’s current PC store information lists Windows 10. The game may run on Windows 11, but that should be treated as modern compatibility rather than an official Windows 11 guarantee.
Should I always use Windows 7 compatibility mode?
No. Test it only when ordinary launch troubleshooting fails, and try one compatibility setting at a time. It can help an old executable but can also interfere with launcher or fullscreen behavior.
Can I fix the game by downloading ACRPR.exe?
