If Capcom Fighting Collection 2 lags online on PS4, first separate delayed controls from rollback, stuttering, and disconnects: they can have different causes. Try Ethernet, pause other network traffic, check the game’s network settings and your PS4 NAT type, then compare matches with several players. There is no verified official Capcom notice identifying a universal PS4 multiplayer-lag bug; the game supports rollback netcode, which can help compensate for latency but cannot eliminate an unstable connection or a poor route between players.
Try these checks before changing router settings
- Compare offline and online play. Try training or another offline mode, then play several online matches against different opponents. Note whether you get late inputs, character snaps, visible pauses, disconnects, or trouble joining matches. Smooth offline play and inconsistent online matches point toward a connection or opponent-specific issue, though this is only a troubleshooting clue.
- Use Ethernet if you can. Connect the PS4 to the router with a LAN cable, then go to Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection > Use a LAN Cable > Easy. Run Test Internet Connection. Ethernet removes Wi-Fi interference as one possible cause; it cannot fix ISP congestion or a poor connection to a particular opponent. Capcom also recommends trying a wired connection in its general PS4 connection guidance.
- Pause competing traffic. Stop PS4 downloads and cloud backups, video streaming, large downloads, torrents, livestreams, VPN traffic, and updates on other devices. If your modem and router are separate, restart both and wait for internet service to return before starting the game. Capcom’s PS4 guidance also recommends limiting other devices’ use of the connection while troubleshooting.
- Check PSN status and updates. Check PlayStation Network status, install available game and PS4 system updates, and note any error code. Capcom recommends checking for PSN outages or maintenance when diagnosing PS4 communication problems; its Capcom Fighting Collection 2 support category links to the game’s support resources.
- Adjust the in-game network options. Go to Main Menu > Options > Network. Change input delay gradually and consider a stronger connection filter if poor matches recur; the trade-offs are explained below.
Capcom Fighting Collection 2 is officially available for PS4. The US PlayStation Store listing identifies it as a PS4 title, released May 16, 2025, and says online play requires PlayStation Plus. Identify what kind of lag you have
“Lag” can describe several different symptoms. Identify which one you see before changing settings:

Rollback netcode helps compensate for differences in when players’ inputs arrive; it is not a promise of lag-free play. Severe packet loss can still cause visible corrections, and distance can raise latency. Wi-Fi may introduce jitter even when a speed test reports high download speed. Fighting games are particularly sensitive to latency spikes because timing affects moment-to-moment inputs. Your connection can also be stable while a particular opponent’s connection—or the route between you—is not.

Capcom’s launch announcement describes rollback netcode for the collection. The PS4 online manual describes the in-match rollback gauge and ping display. These indicators can help you spot a pattern, but they do not prove which player or network segment is responsible.
Adjust input delay and connection filtering
From Main Menu > Options > Network, review Input Delay and Connection Strength. The manual’s Network options page explains that increasing input delay can make multiplayer feel smoother while adding delay between pressing a button and seeing the action. Lowering it reduces that intentional delay, but can make an unstable connection feel rougher.

- Start with a moderate input-delay value rather than immediately choosing the maximum.
- If the match looks smooth but your controls feel sluggish, reduce input delay one step at a time and compare.
- If the match is visibly unstable, try a higher value temporarily to see whether the presentation feels steadier. Treat this as a trade-off, not a network repair.
- Raise the connection-strength requirement if you repeatedly encounter poor-quality matches. A stricter filter can take longer to find opponents, so lower it slightly if queues become too slow.
- When the online matchmaking flow offers cross-region matchmaking, compare matches with it enabled and disabled. A wider search may find opponents sooner but can include longer-distance connections.
The game’s online indicators include ping, rollback status, input-delay information, a network icon, and lobby turn-order colors. The manual describes the colors as blue, green, yellow, orange, then red from lower to higher latency. Watch whether ping or rollback rises when the problem occurs, and whether the same symptoms appear with multiple opponents. Treat the display as a clue rather than a definitive diagnosis; see the online manual.
Check PS4 connection status and NAT type
On PS4, open Settings > Network > View Connection Status and record the NAT type. Capcom’s PS4 NAT troubleshooting guidance describes Type 1 as an open or direct connection, Type 2 as the practical configuration for ordinary online play, and Type 3 as strict: online access may work, but some multiplayer functions may not.

- NAT Type 2: A sensible target for normal online play. If matches remain unstable, continue checking Wi-Fi, traffic, opponents, and service status.
- NAT Type 3: Try enabling UPnP on the router first. If the restriction remains, ask your provider whether the connection uses carrier-grade NAT or has restrictions that prevent inbound connections.
- NAT Type 1: Do not pursue it as a default fix. Capcom warns that a direct or DMZ-based setup may reduce router protection; Type 2 is the safer practical goal for most home networks.
To test UPnP, sign in to your router’s administration page and look under a section such as Network, Advanced, NAT, or Firewall; names vary by router. Enable UPnP, save the change, restart the router, and run the PS4 connection test again.
If UPnP does not help and you understand your router’s settings, manual port forwarding is another possibility. Capcom lists these as general PlayStation Network ports: TCP 80, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480 and UDP 3478, 3479. They are not a confirmed Capcom Fighting Collection 2-specific port list. Reserve a local IP address for the PS4 before adding forwarding rules, verify that rules point to the correct device, and contact your router maker or provider if unsure. Avoid putting the console in a DMZ as a routine step. Port forwarding will not fix Wi-Fi interference, ISP congestion, or an opponent’s connection. See Capcom’s general PS4 networking guidance.

In a hotel, dorm, managed apartment, cellular connection, or other shared network, you may not control the router. Mobile and some other provider connections may also use carrier-grade NAT. If you cannot change UPnP or forwarding settings, ask the network provider about restrictions or test a different network rather than repeatedly changing PS4 options.
Use a private lobby to compare connections
- Arrange a private lobby with a friend or nearby player and choose the same game and mode where you noticed the problem.
- If possible, have both players use Ethernet and pause major downloads or streams during the test.
- Compare a nearby player with a more distant one, and observe ping and rollback status when problems occur.
- If voice chat seems relevant, repeat a match with it disabled to remove it as a variable.
- Repeat at another time of day if results vary; record which opponents, modes, and conditions produce the issue.
- Nearby private match is smooth, but public matches are not: Opponent selection, regional distance, or matchmaking connection quality may be contributing.
- Every match is poor: Focus on your local connection, router, provider, and service status.
- Only one game in the collection has the problem: Record that title and mode rather than assuming the whole collection or PS4 version is affected.
- Only one friend’s lobby fails: Either player’s NAT or the route between the two networks could be involved; the test does not identify fault by itself.
Reinstall only if network checks do not explain it
If stuttering or abnormal behavior also occurs offline, or persists after the connection checks, try local software troubleshooting. Capcom’s general PS4 troubleshooting guidance includes reinstalling as a later step.

- Back up relevant local data if needed, then close the game fully.
- Restart the PS4 and check for game and system updates.
- If the problem remains, delete and reinstall the game application.
- Test again before restoring optional data or changing several settings at once.
Reinstalling may help with corrupted local files; it cannot reduce ping, repair packet loss, or improve an opponent’s connection.
When to contact support
If the problem persists, contact Capcom Support with enough detail to reproduce or narrow it down. Include your PS4 model, physical or digital edition, country or region, game and mode affected, game and system update status, wired or wireless connection, NAT type, internet-provider connection type, exact error code, whether offline play is affected, and whether the issue happens with every opponent or only some. The support portal handles technical questions and requests details about the game environment and circumstances.
The available official information establishes PS4 availability and online support, but does not identify a universal PS4 lag defect or a specific lag-fixing patch. Check Capcom’s game support category for current help rather than assuming a particular update has resolved every connection problem.
