If your YouTube Live feed stops advancing after its first block, first check the software sending the video—not the scheduled event in YouTube Studio. For an OBS playlist, enable Loop Playlist on a VLC Video source; for one file, enable Loop on its Media Source. Then check whether the source and outgoing encoder feed continue at the point the block ends.
Why the first block may be the only one that plays
A YouTube scheduled live stream is a broadcast event; an encoder or source supplies the live video. YouTube’s setup guidance covers scheduling a stream and connecting an encoder with a stream URL and stream key, but does not document a Studio setting that automatically rotates scheduled source-playlist blocks. The likely place to fix rotation is the software producing the feed. That is a starting diagnosis, not a confirmed cause for every setup. YouTube: Schedule a live stream · YouTube: Create a live stream with an encoder
Choose the OBS loop control for your media
These steps apply when OBS is producing the stream. They are not universal YouTube settings; the encoder, operating system, file formats, and meaning of “scheduled block” can vary.
| What you are playing | OBS source | Loop setting |
|---|---|---|
| An ordered playlist of multiple files | VLC Video | Enable Loop Playlist |
| One local video file | Media Source | Enable Loop |
Multiple files: VLC Video source
- In OBS, open the scene used for the live output and select the VLC Video source that holds the playlist.
- Open the source’s properties. Confirm that every intended file is present and that the order is correct.
- Enable Loop Playlist. OBS describes this setting as restarting the source once it has run out of media files. OBS Project: Media Sources
- Confirm the source is active and visible in the live scene. Check its visibility behavior as well: OBS offers options that can stop playback when a source is not visible and restart it when it becomes visible.
If VLC Video is unavailable, OBS notes that VLC must be installed; for 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. OBS Project: Media Sources

One file: Media Source
- Select the Media Source containing the local video and open its properties.
- Enable Loop. This control repeats that one file after playback completes; it is separate from VLC Video’s Loop Playlist setting.
- Check that the source is active and visible in the scene used for the broadcast.
Test the handoff at the block boundary
Watch both the media source in OBS and the outgoing stream in YouTube Live Control Room as the first block ends. YouTube recommends checking the preview and monitoring stream quality during a broadcast. YouTube: Create a live stream with an encoder
- The OBS source ends or goes blank: check that the correct source is in the active scene, the files are available, and the appropriate loop control is enabled.
- The source changes or loops, but YouTube’s broadcast ends: inspect the stream state and encoder connection in Live Control Room. The issue may be the connection or broadcast state rather than playlist playback.
- The encoder feed continues, but the viewer sees no next block: check the outgoing preview and the playlist’s file order and playback behavior. Avoid assuming that a scheduled YouTube event itself controls source rotation.
If you do not use OBS, look for the equivalent repeat or playlist-loop setting in the software or hardware that actually creates your outgoing feed. The OBS labels above do not establish the controls available in another encoder.

Do not confuse source looping with YouTube playlist or archive behavior
- Watch-page playlist loop: YouTube’s Loop control in a playlist box affects a viewer’s playback of that playlist. It does not configure the playlist inside the encoder feed. YouTube Help: Loop videos or playlists
- Scheduled live stream: scheduling creates a broadcast event and the encoder connects to it; the cited YouTube setup guidance does not establish that the event rotates source files or starts another block automatically. YouTube: Schedule a live stream · YouTube: Create a live stream with an encoder
- Automatic archive: YouTube says encoder-created live streams under 12 hours are automatically archived after ending. That describes what happens after a stream ends, not a restart or playlist rotation mechanism. YouTube: Create a live stream with an encoder
