Flick Shot Rogues Makes Its Slingshot Mechanic Part of a Bigger Strategy Game

Flick Shot Rogues makes each flick a shot-planning decision, then layers that tactile action into runs shaped by items, talents, curses, and changing encounters.

Flick Shot Rogues turns a slingshot-like flick into the central move of a turn-based roguelike: aim your hero across the board, then use the collisions along the way to hit enemies and build chains. The mechanic matters because it sits inside a larger set of run-by-run decisions involving items, talents, curses, enemies, and rewards—not because flicking alone is the whole game.

How does Flick Shot Rogues work?

Each shot is a small planning problem. You aim a flick that sends your hero spinning across the board, considering where the hero will travel and what they will hit. One collision can set up another, turning a single move into a useful chain of attacks.

The official Steam description sums up the premise as “Plan, Aim, Shoot!” and describes lining up a shot to send the hero spinning across the board. But a shot is not automatically a good one: the official description warns that misfires can be costly. That risk gives aiming a tactical purpose rather than making it a throwaway action. Steam’s game listing calls it a roguelike dungeon crawler.

Why is the flick more than a novelty?

The flick makes movement and attacking part of the same decision. Rather than treating a turn as simply choosing a target, you plan a path through the board and look for collisions that can produce further hits. The appealing outcome is a chain; the danger is that a poorly judged shot can leave you with a costly result.

That makes the mechanic feel slingshot-like without making the game just a slingshot game. Pocket Gamer’s first impressions describe the mechanic as “merely part of a far larger picture,” emphasizing that it is embedded in the wider game rather than standing alone. Pocket Gamer’s first impressions support that distinction.

How do roguelike runs add strategy?

Shots take place within a run that also involves items, talents, curses, and encounters. Those systems shape what a run can do, while enemies and rewards change between journeys. The result is a loop in which you must consider both the immediate geometry of a shot and the broader possibilities and risks of the run.

  • Plan the shot: Consider the hero’s route and the enemies or other targets that could be hit along it.
  • Look for a chain: A collision may create an opportunity to hit another enemy, making sequencing part of the decision.
  • Account for risk: A misfire can be costly, so an ambitious angle has a downside.
  • Adapt to the run: Items, talents, curses, and changing encounters affect the wider tactical picture.

This is why the game’s thoughtful quality is best understood as an effect of how the flick is used: it is a physicalized action inside a turn-based planning and roguelike progression loop. The available descriptions establish that structure, but do not provide controlled comparisons with other flick-based or turn-based games.
