It was part of the Cold Snap event, which ran from December 16, 2025, through January 13, 2026. That event has ended, so the checklist below is an archival reference unless Embark announces a rerun.
Flickering Flames Project checklist
Save the listed materials for each turn-in. Names can vary slightly between historical guides and localized game clients; use the item name displayed in your client.

The Candleberry requirements are 20 + 50 + 60 + 60 + 70, for a total of 260 Candleberries. In addition to each stage’s unique bonus, contemporary guides report Raider Tokens and Merit.
Stage rewards and the Merit discrepancy
Secondary guides agree on the unique bonuses listed above and generally report 50 Raider Tokens per stage. They do not agree on the Merit amount:

- Beebom reports 2,000 Merit and 50 Raider Tokens for each stage.
- Insider Gaming’s table shows 1,000 Merit twice per stage, which may represent a duplicated row rather than a separate award.
Embark did not publish an official stage-by-stage reward table in the available event material. Treat the Merit figure as uncertain rather than assuming one guide’s number is definitive.
Where to find Candleberries
Embark’s Cold Snap developer tips describe Candleberry bushes as evergreen plants with bright red fruit. Game Designer Andreea Dragoman said, “The Candleberry bush is evergreen and bears bright red fruits.” World & Level Designer Marika Ohlsson added, “The bushes can usually be found around smaller structures, in addition to around rocky areas and other foliage.”

When searching during the event, check vegetation around small buildings, rocky ground and other foliage. Embark also said light-related loot, including light bulbs and candle holders, was more common during Cold Snap. That advice applied to the event period and does not establish current availability after the event ended.

The five-stage Project
This is the checklist in this article: five turn-ins requiring materials and 260 Candleberries, with one unique bonus associated with each stage.
The broader Merit reward track
A separate secondary guide lists 25 event reward tiers, ending with the Space Wrench at 15,000 Merit. That track included Hi-Tech Hiker outfit pieces, an emote, Raider Tokens, color variants and Candleberries. Its tiers were not a sixth Flickering Flames Project stage.

Cold Snap timing and current availability
Embark’s official announcement dates Cold Snap from December 16, 2025, through January 13, 2026. As of September 30, 2026, the event is over. You cannot assume these turn-ins, Candleberry spawns or rewards remain obtainable in the live game unless Embark announces a return or rerun.

Quick preparation checklist
- Plan for all 260 Candleberries if you intended to complete every stage.
- Keep the listed salvage, household items, grenades, food and utility items instead of recycling or selling them during an active rerun.
- Check the exact item labels in your game client if a guide uses “Red Light Stick” rather than “Red Glow Stick.”
- Verify the in-game reward panel for Merit if the Project returns, because historical secondary sources conflict.
