To get started with FM24, first confirm which edition and device you’re using, then keep your first save focused on learning your squad and how matches unfold. The game comes in multiple editions, and setup choices—especially the nations selected in FM24 Mobile—can affect what you can do later.
Choose the FM24 edition that fits your device
FM24 is a family of editions, not one identical game across every device. SEGA’s November 2023 launch announcement listed PC/Mac, Console, Touch and Mobile editions. It described Mobile as exclusive to Netflix members at launch; that historical detail does not confirm today’s availability or subscription terms. Check the current platform listing for the edition you want, its supported features and how it is offered before buying or installing. SEGA’s launch announcement is useful for the original lineup, but not a substitute for current storefront details.
When comparing editions, start with your device and operating system, then check the edition’s feature set and interface. Consider whether you want the fuller management experience or a streamlined version, and verify that any feature you care about is confirmed for that specific edition. A detailed feature-by-feature ranking is not established here, so don’t assume that an option available on one platform is available on another.
Check PC and Mac setup before troubleshooting
SEGA lists these minimum PC requirements on its FM24 Getting Started support page, updated October 24, 2025. These are minimums, not a promise of ideal performance:

The same support page states, “Football Manager 2024 is Deck Verified.” That is a compatibility status, not a performance benchmark. SEGA also says internet access is required for activation and updates.
Activating a boxed PC copy
If you have a boxed PC copy, the box contains a code for digital activation; it is not a separate offline installation path. Follow SEGA’s boxed-copy activation instructions to choose a Steam or Epic key and activate it online. Check that the key’s platform matches the launcher you intend to use.

Keep your first save manageable
There is no single required starting tactic or guaranteed winning formula. Treat the first stretch of a save as a chance to learn what your team can do before trying to optimize every staff, training, scouting and transfer decision at once. Pick one immediate learning goal:
- Understand the squad: look through the players available to you and learn how the game presents their roles and strengths.
- Follow a match: watch how your team’s setup plays out, then make a small change and observe what it affects.
- Learn tactics: focus on what one instruction changes rather than changing several parts of a tactic together.
Once match flow and the squad make more sense, widen your focus to recruitment and player development. A community guide recommends beginning with one tactic and suggests a lower-league club as one possible way to approach a save; that is one player’s advice, not a universal rule or a promise of success. The guide also discloses using a meta tactic, so it should not be treated as proof that a particular approach works for everyone. Read the community guide.

Set up an FM24 Mobile save carefully
Mobile has a consequential choice at save creation: SEGA says you can select up to five nations, and you cannot add or remove nations after the career begins. Choose the nations and leagues you want to play with before confirming the save. This restriction is specific to Mobile; do not assume it applies to PC or Console. SEGA’s FM24 Mobile Getting Started page also lists Enhanced and Original match-engine options. Original is available for less powerful devices, but SEGA does not promise a particular performance improvement.

SEGA’s PC Getting Started page points players to three resources: the in-game manual for guidance while playing, The Dugout for original tips and features, and SI Community for discussion and technical help. For technical problems, use SEGA’s official support resources rather than assuming a gameplay tactic will fix a setup issue.
