Then check Fortnite’s output and voice settings before changing system or network settings. Epic’s reviewed support guidance does not confirm a current widespread Battle Royale bug combining “looping audio” and missing settings; check Epic’s live notices for current issues.
First, identify which audio problem you have
Fortnite game audio, voice chat, and audio created in Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) have different settings and causes. Follow the section that matches what you hear:
- All game sound is silent or routed incorrectly: check Fortnite’s selected output device.
- Game sound works, but teammate voices are missing or you cannot be heard: check voice chat, channels, account restrictions, and platform settings.
- Headphone audio crashes after Fortnite launches on PC: use Epic’s Windows microphone-device procedure below.
- You are building an experience in UEFN: see the creator-audio section; intentional looping there is not a player-side Battle Royale fix.
Fix game audio that is silent or coming through the wrong device
Fortnite may be sending sound to a different output than the headphones or speakers you are using. Epic Games Support notes, “Sometimes your device will set the audio output device setting to use the incorrect device.”
- In Fortnite, open Settings and select the Audio tab.
- Find Audio Output Device and choose the headphones or speakers you are actually using.
- If two similar options appear and one begins with “Default output,” Epic advises choosing the option that does not begin with “Default output.”
- Check whether game sound now comes from the intended device.
Epic’s audio troubleshooting instructions cover this output-device setting.

Fix missing Fortnite voice chat
If other game sounds work but teammate voices do not, troubleshoot voice chat separately. Begin with the current service and known-issue notices, then check the channel and device settings.
Check whether Fortnite reports an issue
- Look for Fortnite reports on Epic’s Fortnite Communities page.
- Check Epic Games Server Status for a service problem.
Check channel, volume, and console party chat
- Make sure voice-chat volume is audible.
- Confirm that you are in the intended channel. Party Channel connects members of an Epic Party; Game Channel connects teammates who may belong to different parties.
- On Xbox or PlayStation, console party chat can prevent Fortnite voice chat from working. Switch to Fortnite chat or leave the console party if you want to use Fortnite voice chat.
Check account restrictions and platform permissions
- Epic says chat may be unavailable on a cabined account until parental consent is completed. Account-level parental controls can also restrict voice and text chat.
- Windows PC: check the Windows default input and output devices, confirm Fortnite has microphone permission, and check that Windows is updated.
- Mac: confirm Fortnite has microphone permission.
Consider network restrictions only after basic checks
Epic also lists router configuration, required network ports, and possible regional or internet-provider restrictions among conditions that can affect voice chat. These are more advanced checks; first rule out channel selection, console party chat, device selection, and account permissions. PC-only: fix headphone audio that crashes after Fortnite launches
Use this procedure only if headphone audio crashes after launching Fortnite on a Windows PC. Epic’s instructions change the microphone device’s Exclusive Mode settings:
- Press Windows + R, type
mmsys.cpl, and press Enter. - Open the Recording tab.
- Double-click the microphone you use with Fortnite.
- Open Advanced and select both checkboxes under Exclusive Mode.
- Click OK, restart Fortnite, and check whether the audio problem is resolved.
If you use two separate headsets, Epic advises repeating the procedure for both microphones. The steps are described in Epic’s headphone audio support article.

Docked Nintendo Switch: a narrow headset workaround
Epic says a 3.5 mm headset can cause voice-chat issues when a Nintendo Switch is docked. It suggests trying a USB audio connection, such as a USB headset or a USB-to-3.5 mm adapter. This is a possible workaround for that specific setup, not a general requirement for Fortnite audio. See Epic’s Nintendo Switch voice-chat guidance.

UEFN creator audio is separate from a player’s Battle Royale audio. In a sound cue, Epic documents intentional looping through the Wave Player node’s Looping setting, or by adding a looping node and choosing a repeat count.

If an Audio Player device is silent, check these setup points:
- Confirm the audio asset plays on its own.
- Make sure playback has an event trigger or that Auto Play is enabled.
- Check that volume is above zero and attenuation is appropriate.
- Confirm Enabled During Phase includes the phase in which the audio should play.

What “looping audio, missing settings” does—and does not—establish
Epic’s reviewed player-support guidance documents output-device selection, voice-chat troubleshooting, and a specific PC headphone-crash procedure. It does not confirm a current widespread Battle Royale defect that combines looping audio with missing settings. That does not rule out an individual or newly emerging issue. Check Epic’s Communities and server-status pages for current reports rather than treating older or anecdotal fixes as confirmed guidance.
