In Fortnite Battle Royale, becoming Godzilla meant finding and entering a special portal during a limited-time event announced for January 2025. The first player to enter the portal became Godzilla; this was separate from unlocking the Godzilla Evolved Outfit. Epic’s announced event and outfit-quest period has ended, so neither should be treated as currently available without newer official confirmation.
How the Godzilla transformation worked
Epic announced that a special portal could appear on the Battle Royale map starting January 17, 2025. In a match where it appeared, the first player to find and jump through it emerged as Godzilla. It was a temporary in-match transformation, not a character selection or an outfit you equipped from your Locker.
The portal event was time-limited. Epic’s announcement described it as beginning in January 2025; the related Chapter 6 Season 1 quest period ended February 21, 2025, at 2 AM ET. That deadline has passed.
Godzilla’s abilities and match rewards
As Godzilla, the player had three listed abilities: Roar revealed nearby players, Mighty Stomp sent players flying, and Heat Ray damaged players and structures. Other players could target Godzilla’s weak spots to deal extra damage. Epic said the player who dealt the most damage received the Godzilla Medallion and an exotic Burst Quad Launcher.

Becoming Godzilla vs. getting the Godzilla skin

The Godzilla Evolved Outfit was a cosmetic, not the portal transformation. Epic said it began glowing after the player’s first elimination in a match and glowed brighter with additional eliminations. Related quest rewards included Godzilla’s Exo-Spine Back Bling, the Crystal Fang Pickaxe, the Mothra Glider, and the Lil’ Godzilla Attack Emote; completing all the quests unlocked the Energized Godzilla Style.
Other Godzilla-themed items
Epic also announced the Mechagodzilla & Kong Bundle and a Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32) collaboration with Godzilla-themed decals and wheels for the in-game Shop in January 2025. The decals were usable only with the Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32) Car Body. The announcement does not establish whether these items are currently available.

Did you need the Godzilla Outfit to become Godzilla?
No. The Outfit was a cosmetic reward, while becoming Godzilla referred to entering the temporary in-match portal. They were separate features.
What abilities did Godzilla have?
Epic listed Roar, which revealed nearby players; Mighty Stomp, which sent players flying; and Heat Ray, which damaged players and structures. Players could target Godzilla’s weak spots to deal extra damage.
