Fortnite System Requirements for PC, Mobile, and UEFN

Fortnite’s minimum PC specs are a compatibility floor, not an FPS promise. Compare Epic’s three Windows tiers, UEFN requirements, and mobile options.

For Fortnite on Windows, Epic’s minimum tier calls for 8 GB of RAM, an Intel Core i3-3225, Intel HD 4000 or AMD Radeon Vega 8 graphics, and a supported 64-bit Windows 10 installation. Epic recommends 16 GB of RAM, an NVMe SSD, and a GTX 960, R9 280, or equivalent graphics card. These are hardware tiers, not promises of a particular frame rate. Requirements below are based on Epic’s published specifications as of August 18, 2026.

Fortnite PC system requirements

Epic publishes three Windows PC tiers: minimum, recommended, and Epic Quality Presets. The minimum column does not separately specify VRAM or storage type; those fields are marked accordingly rather than inferred.

Component Minimum Recommended Epic Quality Presets
Operating system Windows 10 version 22H2, 64-bit; or Windows 10 Enterprise version 21H2, 64-bit Windows 10/11, 64-bit Windows 10/11, 64-bit

RAM 8 GB 16 GB or more 16 GB or more
GPU Intel HD 4000 or AMD Radeon Vega 8 NVIDIA GTX 960, AMD R9 280, or equivalent DirectX 11 GPU NVIDIA RTX 3070, AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT, or equivalent
VRAM Not stated by Epic 2 GB 8 GB or more

What the minimum requirements mean

Minimum is a compatibility floor, not a guarantee of 60 FPS, high settings, stable frame times, or smooth performance in every match or Creative island. Epic cautions that a system at minimum may not handle high graphics settings well. Lowering graphics settings and closing background applications can help, but the result depends on the PC and the experience being played.

Epic does not publish an FPS guarantee for any of its tiers. Performance depends on resolution, rendering mode, graphics settings, the particular island or match, drivers, background software, cooling, and—in a laptop—the power profile and thermal limits. A component name by itself is not enough to predict how smoothly Fortnite will run.

Which tier should you target?

For ordinary play

The recommended tier is a more practical target than minimum for everyday play: 16 GB of RAM, an NVMe SSD, and a GTX 960, R9 280, or equivalent DirectX 11 GPU, alongside the listed CPU class. Epic specifies 2 GB of VRAM at this tier. It still does not promise a particular frame rate; resolution, settings, and the rest of the system matter.

For competitive play

Prioritize consistent frame times over visual effects. A sufficiently capable CPU and GPU for your resolution and rendering mode, at least 16 GB of RAM, an SSD, and a monitor refresh rate suited to the frame rate your system can sustain are more useful considerations than simply selecting the highest graphics preset. Epic’s recommended tier is not a competitive-performance guarantee.

For high visual quality

Use Epic Quality Presets as the relevant official reference: RTX 3070, RX 6700 XT, or equivalent graphics; at least 8 GB of VRAM; an i7-8700, Ryzen 7 3700X, or equivalent CPU; 16 GB or more of RAM; and an NVMe SSD. This tier is substantially above the minimum and recommended GPU classes. It does not guarantee a particular FPS.

Does Fortnite need a dedicated graphics card?

No. Epic lists Intel HD 4000 and Radeon Vega 8 integrated graphics at minimum. Treat these as a low-settings target rather than evidence that every laptop with either GPU will perform similarly. Integrated graphics may share system memory, and laptops can be limited by cooling and power settings; resolution and processor configuration also affect results.

RAM, storage, and Windows details

How much RAM is enough?

Epic lists 8 GB as minimum and 16 GB or more for both recommended and Epic Quality tiers. Sixteen gigabytes is the more useful target if you also keep a browser, voice chat, recording software, overlays, or other applications open. UEFN—the separate creator tool—has higher memory requirements.

Does Fortnite require an SSD?

Epic specifically lists an NVMe SSD for recommended and Epic Quality configurations, but its minimum specification does not state a storage type. An SSD is strongly preferred for loading and general responsiveness; Epic’s published minimum does not establish that a hard drive prevents the game from running. Epic’s current PC requirements page also does not state an installation-size figure.

Which Windows version is supported?

For minimum, Epic’s dedicated support article specifies Windows 10 version 22H2 64-bit or Windows 10 Enterprise version 21H2 64-bit. The recommended and Epic Quality tiers list Windows 10/11 64-bit. Epic’s Epic Games Store listing displays Windows 10 64-bit version 1703 instead, which conflicts with the dedicated support article; use the newer support-page wording when checking the requirements.

UEFN has separate requirements

Fortnite gameplay and Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) are different workloads. UEFN is PC-only and needs more memory and VRAM than ordinary Fortnite at its minimum; use this separate specification if you plan to create or edit islands.

Fortnite on Android, iPhone, and iPad

Mobile eligibility is separate from the Windows requirements, and availability depends on device, country, and distribution route. Epic’s mobile FAQ organizes information for Android, iPhone, and iPad, including native play, cloud play, and devices capable of 60 FPS. Because Epic’s published pages do not provide a verified numerical device cutoff in the available content, don’t rely on old RAM, chipset, or phone-model lists as current requirements.

  • Android: Epic identifies the Epic Games Store for mobile and Google Play as installation routes. In supported regions, Fortnite can also be streamed through Xbox Cloud Gaming, GeForce NOW, or Amazon Luna.
  • iPhone and iPad: Epic says Fortnite is available through the App Store in the United States and identifies the Epic Games Store on mobile as a distribution route in the European Union. Cloud streaming is another option in supported regions.

Check Epic’s Fortnite FAQ, Android page, and iPhone and iPad page for current eligibility and regional availability. Cloud gaming renders the game remotely, so it does not require the device to meet native hardware requirements; play quality still depends on connection quality, latency, region, and service availability.

Console players do not need a PC-style parts comparison

Epic’s Creative documentation lists Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Android, iOS, and PC among supported platforms. On a console, the useful checks are whether Fortnite is available for that platform, whether enough storage is free, and which display or frame-rate modes the console and display support—not matching a CPU and GPU against the Windows table. See Epic’s platform documentation.

How to check whether your PC is a fit

  • Check your Windows edition and version, and confirm that it is 64-bit.
  • Identify your exact CPU and graphics processor model; a laptop’s name alone may not reveal its GPU.
  • Check installed RAM and, for a dedicated graphics card, its VRAM.
  • Find out whether Fortnite is installed on an NVMe SSD, another SSD, or a hard drive.
  • Update your graphics driver and, on a laptop, check that it is plugged in and using a suitable power profile.
  • Compare each component with the tier that matches your goal: minimum for the compatibility floor, recommended for a more practical everyday target, or Epic Quality for higher visual settings.

If Fortnite launches but stutters

Start with the adjustments Epic recommends: lower graphics settings and close background applications. A lower-fidelity rendering mode may also help weaker systems, but modes and labels can change and the option is not a guarantee of better performance on every GPU or driver. Epic has described performance mode separately from higher-quality rendering modes in its Fortnite Unreal Engine 5.1 announcement.

Other possible causes include low available RAM, slow storage, driver issues, shader or asset loading, thermal throttling, or a laptop running on battery or a restricted power profile. These are troubleshooting possibilities, not diagnoses based on the requirements list. If changing settings does not help, check temperatures and power mode, update the graphics driver, and compare behavior at a lower resolution.

PC tournament security is separate from the hardware table

Epic staff described Secure Boot, TPM, and IOMMU as anti-cheat requirements for PC tournament players beginning February 19; this concerns tournament participation, not a replacement for the standard Fortnite hardware requirements. See the Epic Games Communities post for its scope and details.
