The physical Xbox 360 release is on DVD, but that fact does not tell you how much free console storage an installation will require. For an edition-specific amount, check the install prompt on your console or an authoritative Xbox listing.
Which Forza Horizon does this cover?
This guide covers the original Forza Horizon, released for Xbox 360 in 2012—not later games in the series. Xbox lists the game as developed by Playground Games and published by Turn 10 Studios and Microsoft Studios: Xbox: Forza Horizon.
Does the Xbox 360 disc need storage to play?
Microsoft’s May 2012 fact sheet identifies the Xbox 360 game format as DVD: Forza Horizon Fact Sheet. A physical disc is distinct from an installed copy: the disc is the game media, while any installation uses console storage. The DVD format alone does not establish whether a particular edition or console will require installation, or how much free space it will need.
How much free space should you have?
No exact installed-storage requirement is stated in the official Xbox listing or Microsoft’s fact sheet. That means there is no verified number here to use as a definitive free-space recommendation. Check the prompt shown by your Xbox 360 when you start an installation; it reflects the edition and console you are using. Xbox’s listing describes a Games on Demand version, but does not give an original Xbox 360 install footprint.

Why disc-image size is not an installation requirement
A secondary GameFAQs search result lists disc-image sizes of 7.8 GiB for some European editions and 7.9 GiB for a USA listing: GameFAQs: Xbox 360 game list. Those are image-file figures, not verified measurements of the space an Xbox 360 installation requires. They should not be treated as the console’s required free-space amount.
