Release date and platforms
Playground Games announced that Forza Horizon 6 would launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 19, 2026, with Premium Edition early access beginning May 15. Those dates have passed, so the game is no longer an upcoming 2026 release on those platforms. The announcement also said a PlayStation 5 version would follow later in 2026; the cited announcements do not establish whether it is available now. See the release and platform announcement.
How to access the game
At launch, the official FAQ listed standalone editions and subscription access. These are the announced launch terms, not a guarantee of current subscription benefits or store offers; check the relevant store before buying.

What Japan looks like in Forza Horizon 6
The setting is an interpretation of Japan, not a one-to-one recreation of the country or a specific region. Playground Games described a map designed to combine recognizable inspirations with the needs of an open-world racing game, bringing urban, rural and mountain environments together.
The official map reveal names roads inspired by Tokyo’s C1 loop and Gingko Avenue, as well as mountain passes inspired by Mt. Haruna and Bandai Azuma. It also highlights varied landscapes and seasonal changes. These are inspirations for the game map, not a promise that each route reproduces its real-world counterpart exactly. In an Xbox Wire interview, Cultural Consultant Kyoko Yamashita described the appeal of bringing contrasting settings together: “I love the coexistence of Japan: a neighborhood shrine beside a small workshop beside a neon arcade – traditional and modern on the same block. There is so much scope and inspiration to be explored with Japan, and the richness felt like a natural fit for this game.” The interview also discusses how the team approached the setting: Forza Horizon 6’s Japan setting.
Cars and ways to play
The official Xbox game page describes more than 550 real-world cars, along with exploration and festival racing, solo and cooperative play, multiplayer activities and EventLab creation. The car figure is the count stated by Xbox on its game page, not an independent vehicle audit. What to know about PC issues
Playground Games’ May 22, 2026 post said it was investigating Drivatar AI balance, framerate on AMD GPUs, audio crackling on some PC hardware, and crashes or invalid loading errors. It reported that a hotfix had already improved invalid loading errors and advised checking the PC specifications and using current graphics drivers. This is a dated post-launch snapshot, not evidence that those issues remain unresolved today.
