The Xbox One-filtered critic page also shows an 87, but displays 86 critic reviews. These are different page scopes and counts; cite the all-platform figure as 87 from 85 reviews rather than blending the totals.
Metacritic separately lists a 7.8 user score from 977 user ratings. That audience score measures user ratings, not professional critic reviews, so it should not be combined with the 87 Metascore.

What did critics praise?
Cars, tracks and variety
Review excerpts highlighted the breadth of cars, tracks and activities, as well as the game’s polished presentation. The original Xbox One release launched with over 450 cars and 26 tracks, according to Forza’s 20th-anniversary retrospective. Those are game-content counts, not independent measures of quality. The 2015 Xbox Wire announcement also promoted over 450 cars, 26 locales and a 70-plus-hour career mode; those were publisher-announced specifications.
Weather, night racing and driving options
Wet-weather and night races gave reviews a specific feature to discuss beyond the car list. Critics considered how weather affected driving and added variety. GameSpot reviewer Miguel Concepcion gave the game 8/10 and praised its options for different skill levels: “The Mod system and the weather effects are reasons enough for Forza 5 enthusiasts to seriously consider this sequel and the abundance of difficulty and assist options makes Forza 6 an immensely accessible driving simulation for newcomers.”

GameSpot’s review also praised Drivatar variety and multiplayer. Its broader assessment was that the assist and difficulty choices made the racing accessible to newcomers without limiting the game’s appeal to returning players.
What were the main criticisms?
The positive consensus was not universal enthusiasm. GamesRadar’s 60/100 review excerpt criticized inconsistent difficulty, random payouts and dull events. Those points speak to the experience of progression and event design, rather than the quality of the car roster alone.

GameSpot also noted a technical drawback: replay scenes ran below 60 frames per second. This caveat concerned replays; it should not be generalized into a claim about the frame rate of all gameplay.
Which version do these reviews cover?
The original Forza Motorsport 6 launched for Xbox One, with regional release dates of September 15, 2015 in North America and most Asian territories, September 17 in Japan, and September 18 in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, according to Xbox Wire. The critic pages’ Xbox One reviews are therefore the relevant sample for the original release.

Forza’s retrospective also lists PC, but identifies that version as Forza Motorsport 6: Apex, a separate free PC release that arrived through the Microsoft Store in May 2016. Do not treat that PC release as the same review sample as the original Xbox One game.

Critic reviews point to a strong fit for players who want a broad, polished racing game with many cars and tracks, optional assists, weather and night events, and multiplayer. The main cautions in the cited reviews concern uneven difficulty and event rewards, plus below-60-fps replay scenes. The 87 Metascore supports calling the critical reception positive, but it does not settle whether the game’s progression or presentation suits a particular player.
