Fractured Mind Pauldrons are a Tailoring-crafted cloth shoulder item in World of Warcraft Classic: Season of Discovery. To make them, reach Tailoring 250, complete the level-50 quest “Waking the Nightmare,” learn the pattern from the Shadowy Figure in Moonglade, and gather 10 Nightmare Seeds, one Inert Mantle of Nightmares, eight Felcloth, and eight Bolts of Runecloth.
What Fractured Mind Pauldrons do
The pauldrons are listed at item level 55 and require character level 50. Their listed stats are 64 armor, +14 Intellect, +12 Spirit, and up to +18 magical damage and healing. Damaging spells can trigger an effect that increases spell casting speed by 10% for 10 seconds. That effect does not work outside areas under the influence of the Nightmare. These item details are listed by Warcraft Wiki.
How to learn the recipe and craft the pauldrons
- Meet the profession and character requirements. The recipe requires Tailoring 250, and the item requires level 50 to equip.
- Complete “Waking the Nightmare.” The item reference identifies this level-50 quest as the prerequisite for learning the pattern.
- Speak with the Shadowy Figure in Moonglade. After completing the quest, speak to the figure to learn the recipe. The broader Nightmare Equipment quest-chain context is covered in Wowhead’s Phase 3 crafting guide.
- Collect the materials and craft. You need the following reagents:
| Material | Amount | Acquisition note |
|---|---|---|
| Nightmare Seeds | 10 | The cited item reference says these drop from dragonkin in the Temple of Atal’Hakkar. See Warcraft Wiki’s Nightmare Seed reference. |
| Inert Mantle of Nightmares | 1 | Listed as a reward from “Waking the Nightmare.” The reference also says additional copies can be purchased from Rix Xizzix in Booty Bay; verify in game if vendor availability is important. See Warcraft Wiki’s mantle reference. |
| Felcloth | 8 | Required reagent; the cited item reference does not specify an acquisition route. |
| Bolts of Runecloth | 8 | Required reagent; the cited item reference does not specify an acquisition route. |
Is it worth crafting for your caster?
Its value depends on your specialization, rotation, content, and available shoulder gear—not just the listed spell-damage bonus. The 10% casting-speed proc is conditional on being in an area under the Nightmare’s influence, and its practical effect depends on whether faster casting changes your rotation. For example, the Phase 3 Priest DPS guide cautions that the proc does not shorten the 1.5-second global cooldown, which can limit its benefit when that cooldown is the bottleneck.
Phase 3 class guides do not give one universal verdict: the Warlock DPS guide calls the pauldrons an obvious best choice for a character with Tailoring, while also listing dungeon, PvP, and other crafted alternatives. The Priest guide discusses the global-cooldown limitation and lists optional shoulder alternatives. Those are dated Phase 3 recommendations, not guarantees for every later phase or build. See the Phase 3 Warlock DPS guide and Phase 3 Priest DPS guide.
