Here’s what you need and how to get started on a supported Quest headset.
What “free Xbox Game Pass on Quest” means
The Game Pass starter edition is included for eligible Horizon+ subscribers in regions where the benefit is available. Horizon+ itself is paid. Xbox’s announcement lists U.S. Horizon+ prices of $7.99 per month or $59.99 per year; check current pricing before subscribing, since prices and benefits can change. The announcement does not establish a complete regional eligibility list, so check current Xbox or Meta account and service information for your location.
Xbox announced that the starter edition includes 50+ games, 10 hours of cloud gaming each month, and Rewards for playing. These are the announced starter-benefit terms, not a promise that every Game Pass title can be streamed. Cloud-playable games and access can vary by plan, platform, region, and time.
Which Quest headsets work?
Xbox’s VR page lists Meta Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3, and Quest 3S as supported headsets for Xbox cloud gaming. You also need access to Xbox Cloud Gaming in your region and a game that supports cloud play on your account or benefit.

What you need before setup
- A supported Quest headset: Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3, or Quest 3S.
- An Xbox account and either the eligible Horizon+ starter benefit or another subscription that provides access to the cloud game you want to play.
- A title available for cloud gaming with your plan. Xbox says select free-to-play games and most, but not all, Game Pass titles can be played from the cloud.
- A compatible controller connected by Bluetooth or USB. Some games support touch controls, but touch controls are not available for every game.
- A reliable internet connection. Xbox’s Cloud Gaming FAQ gives 10 Mbps as a minimum download speed and says some devices may need 20 Mbps for best quality. Its 2025 getting-started article recommends at least 20 Mbps for a stable experience and favors 5 GHz Wi-Fi where possible.
Horizon+ setup on Quest
Xbox’s getting-started guidance places Meta Quest in the Xbox app route. App screens and labels can change, so use the current prompts rather than relying on a fixed button-by-button sequence.
- Check your headset. Confirm it is a Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3, or Quest 3S.
- Check regional availability. Confirm Xbox Cloud Gaming and the Horizon+ starter benefit are available for your region. Xbox says availability varies.
- Check your account and access. Sign in with the Xbox account that has the eligible Horizon+ benefit or other required subscription.
- Choose a cloud-supported game. Confirm the title is available for cloud gaming with your account; not every Game Pass game streams.
- Connect a controller. Pair a compatible controller over Bluetooth or connect it by USB, following the headset and controller prompts.
- Improve the connection. Use stable Wi-Fi; Xbox recommends 20 Mbps for a stable experience and suggests 5 GHz Wi-Fi where possible. The minimum listed in its FAQ is 10 Mbps, with some devices needing 20 Mbps for best quality.
- Open the Xbox app. Install it on the Quest if needed, then open it and sign in.
- Start the game. Select an available cloud game in the app and follow its prompts to begin streaming.

What games and play time should you expect?
The Horizon+ starter announcement specifies a 50+ game selection and 10 cloud gaming hours per month. It does not mean the full Game Pass catalog is available to stream. Xbox describes the broader cloud catalog as including select free-to-play games and most Game Pass titles, with availability depending on plan, platform, region, and time. Check the current catalog and the game’s cloud-play availability before choosing what to play.
