1. Split Fiction: the closest follow-up
Split Fiction is the most direct pick if what you liked about It Takes Two was coordinating with a partner through a varied, purpose-built co-op adventure. EA describes it as a split-screen game tailored for two players, made by Hazelight, the studio behind It Takes Two and A Way Out. Its levels alternate between science-fiction and fantasy, with platforming, stealth, puzzles, and changing mechanics. Playing together
EA lists couch split-screen and cross-play on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC on the game page. For online Friend’s Pass play, EA Help says one player must own the full game and invite a friend. Its Friend’s Pass guidance lists PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, a narrower platform list than the game page’s cross-play coverage. Check the current requirements for your exact platform before buying or planning an online session. EA Help’s Friend’s Pass instructions explain the setup.
If you are looking for a physical PS5 copy, EA Help lists PS5 as supported and instructs owners of a physical copy to insert the disc. Confirm that a retailer listing is specifically for the PS5 physical edition; platform and format can differ between listings.

2. A Way Out: a more serious, cinematic alternative
A Way Out is another Hazelight co-op-only game, but its tone and premise are quite different. You and a partner play prisoners Leo and Vincent as they try to escape. EA frames the story around trust and consequences, making it a better fit if you want a focused prison-break drama rather than the shifting fantasy and science-fiction worlds of Split Fiction. The distinction is less about which is universally better and more about what kind of evening you want: Split Fiction for a changing mix of settings and mechanics, or A Way Out for a prison-escape story. These recommendations reflect the games’ official descriptions and platform guidance, not comparative playtesting or review scores.

What It Takes Two’s sales figure does—and does not—say
Electronic Arts reported that It Takes Two had sold 23 million units worldwide in a March 6, 2025 press release announcing Split Fiction. That is a dated sales figure, not a current lifetime total or evidence that one of these follow-ups will suit every player. EA’s March 6, 2025 announcement also carried Hazelight Studios’ launch message: “With Split Fiction, it’s all about ‘Friendship’.”
