Here are the games worth watching, with the dates and platforms listed in current release calendars. Dates can change: Nintendo says its listed dates are accurate at the time of publication, and its calendar is regional.
What games are coming out in October 2026?
This is a selected watch list, not a complete release calendar. Platform and date listings come from current editorial calendars and, for Switch-family releases, Nintendo Australia; check local listings close to launch for changes or regional differences. Nintendo’s upcoming games calendar notes that its dates are accurate at the time of publication. VGC’s October release guide was updated September 28, 2026. October is described by VGC as one of the year’s busiest months, an editorial characterization rather than a published game count.

Which October releases are worth watching?
For racing and multiplayer
Star Wars: Galactic Racer stands out for combining a single-player roguelite campaign with online races for up to 12 players. It is listed for October 6 on PC, Xbox and PS5. The mix gives it a different pitch from a straightforward circuit racer, though the calendar information does not establish further details about its modes or progression.
For a new story in a familiar series
Gears of War: E-Day is also listed for October 6 on Xbox and PC. Its prequel setting makes it the month’s pick for players who want a new entry rooted in the origins of the original Gears of War.

Not every line in an October calendar represents the same kind of release. Several picks here are new entries or projects, while the three Resident Evil listings are editions or releases of older games. Nintendo describes Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen as expanded, but the available calendar details do not establish whether every platform listing is a port, remaster or another edition. Treat the label attached to a calendar carefully rather than assuming a re-release is a wholly new game.

Release guides may also mix full games with updates, DLC, events and sales. PC Gamer’s October guide, for example, includes those categories alongside releases; its list also highlights the smaller game Car Park Capital for October 9. Those calendar items are not included as major game launches in the main table. This shortlist focuses on games with a listed release date and concrete gameplay or setting hooks, rather than claiming to cover every PC or console release.
How to choose what to play
- Pick by platform first. Do not assume a title appears on every system. Nintendo lists Final Fantasy Resonance for both Switch generations, but Nintendo Switch Sports Resort for Switch 2.
- Match the play style. The schedule ranges from interconnected logic puzzles and turn-based RPG battles to first-person Soulslike combat, rhythm action, racing and motion-controlled sports.
- Decide whether you want something new or familiar. Gears of War: E-Day is a prequel; the Resident Evil entries are returning games in specified editions. That distinction can matter if you want a new release rather than another version of a game you know.
- Verify the date and local platform listing. Release calendars can shift, and Nintendo’s dates are regional. Check the relevant platform store or publisher page near launch for the final date, edition and availability in your country.
Other editorial calendars consulted include PC Gamer’s release-date guide and GamesRadar’s video game release dates.
