What it is
Spacebase DF-9 is a space simulator from Double Fine, set in humanity’s distant future. You build a settlement for a mixed population of humans and aliens, starting with a small oxygen-filled room and expanding as you mine nearby asteroids for materials. The base can grow to include gardens, pubs, fitness areas, research facilities and other structures. Citizens need assignments to keep essential work moving, while their needs and morale must be balanced against the demands of survival.
The settlement also faces threats and discoveries beyond its walls. Security forces can investigate derelict ships, and the base can be defended against hostile invaders and parasites. Research unlocks equipment, armor, weapons and structures; derelicts can also hold blueprints, while research can produce cures for space diseases. The game supports single-player and is listed for Windows, macOS and Linux. Steam features include Cloud, Trading Cards and Family Sharing.
