Gamescom 2024’s Opening Night Live mixed brand-new game reveals with trailers, gameplay premieres and release updates. The wider Cologne event added exhibitor booths, public demos and publisher broadcasts, so no single stage recap is a complete inventory of every game shown. Here are the major announcements and playable highlights confirmed in coverage of the event.
What Gamescom 2024 covered
Gamescom took place in Cologne, Germany, with Xbox describing its main presence as running from August 21–25 and public consumer hours from August 22–25. Opening Night Live, hosted by Geoff Keighley, was a little over two hours and formed only one part of the event. The show floor included publisher booths, hands-on sessions and live broadcasts.
Koelnmesse’s official closing report described 335,000 visitors from about 120 countries. It also reported 1,462 exhibitors from 64 countries, with a 71% foreign share, across about 230,000 square meters of gross exhibition space. Those are organizer-reported figures.
As of Saturday evening, the organizer reported more than 310 million video views for the overall show program and more than 40 million views for Opening Night Live—twice the prior year’s Opening Night Live figure. These were counts at that reporting cutoff, not final lifetime totals. Gamescom epix had also reached 2.5 million page views, including its digital trading cards, by Saturday evening.

Opening Night Live versus Gamescom as a whole
Opening Night Live was the headline showcase, but it was one program inside a multi-day trade and consumer event. A stage recap can therefore identify the biggest reveal and gameplay stories without proving that every booth demo, partner stream or smaller presentation has been included.

Reveals versus updates
The event’s new-title stories included Borderlands 4, Directive 8020, Revenge of the Savage Planet, Reanimal, King of Meat and Dying Light: The Beast. The same presentation also devoted meaningful time to campaigns, systems and dates for games such as Black Ops 6, Civilization VII, Monster Hunter Wilds, Dune: Awakening, Path of Exile 2, Marvel Rivals and Genshin Impact. They are not direct substitutes; they span horror, shooters, strategy, survival, action RPGs and co-op experiences.
Why the dates need a timestamp
Announcements made at a 2024 event describe what publishers planned or promised then. The November 15, 2024 Path of Exile 2 Early Access date, December 6, 2024 Marvel Rivals date, November 20, 2024 Xbox date for Genshin Impact and February 11, 2025 Civilization VII date are historical announcement information, not a guarantee of present-day availability.

The clearest headline announcements were Borderlands 4, Directive 8020, Reanimal, Revenge of the Savage Planet, King of Meat and Dying Light: The Beast, while the strongest demonstrations came from established games including Black Ops 6, Civilization VII, Monster Hunter Wilds and Dune: Awakening.
