Gamescom 2025’s biggest game trailers and announcements landed during Opening Night Live (ONL) on August 19, with Xbox continuing its show-floor activities and broadcasts on August 20–21 in Cologne, Germany. The headline moments included the first gameplay look at Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, new footage for several major Xbox games, and the reveal of Hollow Knight: Silksong’s September 4 release date. The Xbox booth added playable demos and hardware hands-ons, so not every notable Gamescom moment was an ONL announcement.
What were the biggest Xbox and PC reveals at Gamescom 2025?
The event mixed first looks, updates to announced games, release-date news, DLC, hardware and hands-on opportunities. The most useful way to compare them is by what was new, when a game was announced to arrive, which platforms were named, and whether attendees could play or try it.
- First gameplay: Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 opened ONL with its first gameplay, while Keeper and The Outer Worlds 2 also showed new material.
- Dates announced: Several Xbox titles received 2025 dates, while Lords of the Fallen II and LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight were reported for 2026.
- Wider-show headline: Hollow Knight: Silksong’s September 4, 2025 date was among the major Gamescom stories, but it was not part of the Xbox-only ONL recap.
- In-person experiences: Attendees could try selected games and the upcoming ROG Xbox Ally handhelds at the Xbox booth.
Dates and platforms below reflect announcements or contemporaneous coverage from August 2025; they do not establish whether a game later released on schedule or its current availability.

The same roundup also covered World of Tanks: HEAT and the PS5 release and expansion for Age of Empires IV. The broader event recap highlighted Hollow Knight: Silksong’s September 4, 2025 date, the Midnight expansion, the Fallout TV Season 2 trailer, a ROG announcement of an Xbox-certified wireless controller, and a Monster Hunter Wilds / Final Fantasy XIV collaboration. These were part of the wider-show coverage, not all Xbox game announcements. Windows Central’s live recap supplied that broader selection; its “biggest” framing was editorial, not an official award or measured ranking.

The show floor was a separate part of Gamescom from ONL’s trailer presentation. Xbox previewed more than 20 playable games, ROG Xbox Ally handhelds, a public hands-on for Ninja Gaiden 4, a Hollow Knight: Silksong demo and an The Outer Worlds 2 theater presentation. Xbox also planned broadcasts from its booth on August 20 and 21. Its preview described a player-housing hands-on at the World of Warcraft booth. These were planned floor and broadcast offerings, rather than additional ONL announcements. Details appeared in Xbox’s July 28 booth preview.

Xbox’s Digital Passport Quest tied booth activities to Play Anywhere and Game Pass. Xbox described Play Anywhere as buying a game once and playing across PC, Xbox console and supported handhelds; that does not mean every game in this recap supported the feature. It described Game Pass as offering games on console, PC and cloud.
How to read the event’s release dates and platform lists
Gamescom coverage captures what publishers and event recaps said at the time, not a live release tracker. A date announced in August 2025 should therefore be read as the event-time plan, not proof of a later launch. Platform lists are likewise limited to the platforms named in the cited announcement or roundup; an omitted platform should not be inferred to be either confirmed or ruled out.
The practical distinction is between a new reveal and a new update: Black Ops 7 got its first gameplay look, while other already announced games received story footage, gameplay, a date, or a new feature. For attendees, the booth program mattered in a different way: demos and hardware hands-ons let visitors experience selected games and devices rather than just watch trailers.
