Push Square reported on October 6, 2026, that GameStop planned to price pre-owned PS5 Pro consoles in the US at up to $1,399.99 for a digital-only unit and $1,499.99 for one with a disc drive attached. The report cited a Reddit post and a leaked message; the reported start date, October 16, 2026, had not arrived as of October 7.
What prices were reported?
Push Square reported two price ceilings for pre-owned PS5 Pro units:
| # | Preview | Product | Price | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 |
|
PlayStation 5 Pro with 2TB SSD Storage, Console Only - PS5 Pro Gaming System, White (Renewed) | $1,499.49 | Buy on Amazon |
| 2 |
|
PlayStation®5 Digital Edition (slim) | $598.99 | Buy on Amazon |
| Reported configuration | Reported price ceiling | What the description means |
|---|---|---|
| Digital-only PS5 Pro | $1,399.99 | The console without a disc drive attached. |
| PS5 Pro with a disc drive attached | $1,499.99 | The console with the optional drive attached. |
These are figures attributed to the reported price guidance, not independently verified live GameStop listings. Push Square said its GameStop link already reflected the prices on October 6, although the direct GameStop product page could not be independently retrieved in the evidence available for this report.
Where did the claim come from?
Push Square’s October 6 report cited a post in the r/GameStop subreddit as the source of the alleged new guidance and leaked internal message. The thread contains a user’s post and discussion, not a separate confirmation from GameStop. Comments questioning the message’s authenticity or date do not establish whether it is genuine.

Push Square attributed this sentence to the reported message: “The pre-owned console will have a higher price than the new console – this is intentional.” The report did not identify the message’s speaker or their role. No public GameStop statement or named company explanation was established in the material reviewed.
What does “digital-only” mean here?
Sony identifies the PS5 Pro as a 2 TB all-digital console. Its US PlayStation Direct product page says the disc drive is sold separately and requires an internet connection to pair with the console during setup. So the two reported configurations are not different console editions: one is the digital-only console, and the other is that console with the optional drive attached.
Sony’s CFI-71XX safety guide lists 2 TB custom SSD storage, 16 GB GDDR6 plus 2 GB DDR5 memory, and a disc-drive port. Sony notes that design and specifications may change.

How does the reported pricing compare with a new PS5 Pro?
Push Square described a new PS5 Pro as costing about $900 in the US. That is the outlet’s comparison, not a current Sony price independently confirmed here. The official Sony product information reviewed identified the console and its specifications but did not establish a live price.
On that reported comparison, the pre-owned price ceilings would exceed the approximate new-console figure. The available evidence does not establish GameStop’s rationale beyond the leaked message’s reported use of the word “intentional.” Claims that demand for a particular game, supply constraints, or other market factors caused the pricing remain speculation, not demonstrated explanations.
What remains unconfirmed?
- Whether the reported guidance is authentic and whether the prices took effect on October 16, 2026.
- Current GameStop inventory and the actual price of any available unit.
- How GameStop grades these units, and what warranty or return terms apply.
- Whether the reported figure for a drive-equipped console includes a separately sold drive as part of the specific listing, rather than simply describing the console configuration.
- Any fuller explanation from GameStop for the reported price difference.
Anyone considering a purchase should check the live seller listing for the exact condition, included accessories, warranty, and return terms; none of those listing-specific details was established by the reported price guidance.
