Yes, you can get financial aid for participating in esports—but “gaming guild scholarship” can also mean a game guild lets you use digital assets, sometimes with a stated share of rewards. Those are different arrangements: a college award is institutional aid governed by the school’s terms; a guild arrangement is game-specific and is not tuition aid or guaranteed income.

There is no universal eligibility rule or standard amount for either meaning. Start by confirming which type of opportunity you are considering, then verify its current terms with the institution or provider.
How college esports scholarships work
Colleges set their own rules. Some awards target competitive players on a particular roster; others recognize leadership or community-building. A gamer tag alone may not be enough: applications can require admission materials, a recruitment form, game results or a tracker profile, an essay, and evidence of community involvement.

The ESA Foundation offers awards for students pursuing video-game creation and for students who play or manage collegiate esports. It says its program has awarded more than 500 scholarships since 2007 to support underrepresented students pursuing computer science or video-game arts and sciences-related degrees. Its page says applications for the 2027–28 cycle will be available March 1, 2027; that date applies to this program, not other awards.

How to prepare a college application
- Start with the official school page. Check that the program supports your game and role, identify the entry cycle, and see whether admission must be completed before the esports application.
- Build a verifiable player profile. Provide a public tracker link when requested. If a game lacks a tracker, follow the program’s instructions for explaining that and linking to results or accomplishments. Add rankings, highlights, or statistics only where the application requests or accepts them.
- Show how you contribute. For awards that value leadership or community, give concrete examples: organizing events, welcoming new players, volunteering, or improving a team or gaming community.
- Map the academic and financial conditions. Record the award’s covered charges, duration, renewal criteria, GPA and credit requirements, participation rules, and stacking restrictions.
- Ask the esports director or financial-aid office about unclear terms. Confirm the deadline, eligible entry term, award amount, renewal, interaction with other institutional awards, and what happens if roster needs change.
What a game-guild scholarship means in Axie
In Axie Infinity, “scholarship” can refer to a manager allowing a player to use game assets. Axie’s official delegation article describes delegation through App.axie without transferring ownership; it says delegation periods can run from one day up to a year, can be revoked, and can be tracked in the Delegation Center. The article describes an early rollout and says reward splitting was not integrated in that beta phase. These features and rules can change, so check current official support before relying on them.
Axie Classic’s guild guide describes a separate Guild Support system: members can contribute up to six Axies to a shared vault or rent up to three, at a listed cost of 20 gold per Axie. Guild leaders can also assign delegated Axies to members, subject to the guide’s limits and assignment duration. These are game mechanics, not tuition-scholarship terms.

One provider’s offer should not be treated as a market standard. Hyperion Guild’s page advertises a minimum 40% share of SLP earned, bonus payments, and regular payouts, and says candidates should be willing to learn, participate consistently, and support guild members. That is the provider’s advertised offer; it does not establish typical terms, earnings, or the current availability of openings.
Questions to settle before accepting a guild offer
- Who owns the assets, and which game and mode are included?
- How are rewards calculated and divided, and when and how are payouts made?
- Are there costs or fees? How long does access last, and how can delegation be revoked?
- What conduct or performance conditions apply, and does the arrangement use official game tools?
Get current written terms and verify the mechanics through official game support. A stated reward share is not proof of earnings.

What the examples reveal
Headline value alone does not make offers comparable. Nebraska sets annual GPA and credit requirements; Illinois Tech identifies awards that cannot be combined with certain full-tuition institutional awards; RIT says its award can stack with other RIT merit awards. Guild offers, by contrast, depend on provider-specific asset access and payout terms. Compare the conditions that affect what you actually receive, not just a quoted dollar amount or percentage.
