When does Gears of War: E-Day release?
The worldwide launch date is October 6, 2026. Premium Edition owners and Standard Edition owners who bought the Premium Upgrade received Early Access starting October 1, so that window had already begun as of October 3. Xbox describes the Premium benefit as up to five days of Early Access; it is not an additional five days for every buyer regardless of purchase timing. Xbox Wire announced the Early Access start on October 1.

The Coalition said on September 17 that the game had gone gold, a development milestone ahead of launch—not a review or a guarantee about performance on every system. Mike Crump’s Xbox Wire announcement documents that status.
What is Gears of War: E-Day about?
E-Day means Emergence Day: the moment the Locust Horde erupts from beneath the planet Sera and begins its assault on humanity. Set 14 years before the original Gears of War, this prequel follows younger Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago through the invasion’s opening days and the start of their bond. Xbox’s game page presents it as an origin story.

The Coalition’s developers have described the project as a return to the series’ core third-person cover-action identity. Its July 2026 gameplay update says the team built the game from scratch, rebuilding cover systems and unifying the gameplay sandbox across modes. What platforms and access options are available?
The listed platforms are Xbox Series X|S and PC. On PC, the game is available through Microsoft Store/Xbox on PC and Steam. Xbox Play Anywhere supports shared progression and achievements between Xbox and PC for supported purchases. Xbox Wire’s October 1 post also names cloud play through Game Pass Ultimate and GeForce NOW; availability and service terms can vary. Check each service’s current regional catalog and requirements before choosing a route.

Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass include the game at launch, according to the Xbox product listing. That makes a subscription the lowest-friction route if you already use an eligible plan, but it does not mean the game is included with every Game Pass tier. Check Xbox’s live listing for current inclusion and terms.
Which edition should you buy?
Xbox’s US listing, checked October 3, 2026, showed Standard Edition for $69.99 and Premium Edition for $99.99. It listed the Premium Upgrade at $30 for owners of Standard Edition. These are US product-listing prices at that time, not guaranteed prices in other regions or a statement of current availability. Check the live store listing for your country and platform.

Premium’s listed contents are digital bonuses; the available information does not establish that every item has the same value to every player. In particular, the seasonal packs and Iron matter only if you want those customization or in-game currency extras. Compare the actual prices shown for your account and region before purchasing.
What can you play solo or with friends?
The official Xbox page lists a solo campaign, two-player split-screen co-op on console, online co-op for up to four players, Horde Siege PvE, and Versus PvP. If local couch co-op is essential, note that the listed split-screen option is for console; the page does not promise PC split-screen. Online player counts and service requirements should be checked against the live listing for your platform.

The official Xbox Game Studios Shop listing priced the Collector’s Edition at $299.99 and showed it out of stock when checked. Its bundle includes a 15-inch Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago diorama, a 1:1 Carlos Santiago COG-tag replica, lithograph, in-game photo, thank-you note, custom SteelBook case, display packaging, and the game. The diorama requires three AAA batteries, which are not included.

The game format depends on platform: Xbox Series X buyers receive a physical disc, while Steam buyers receive a digital code. Are there other E-Day collectibles?
Xbox Wire also identifies The Art and Making of Gears of War: E-Day, an Insight Editions companion book covering art, story, sound, and design through developer interviews, and a Gears of War: E-Day Limited Edition Xbox Wireless Controller.
