Gears of War: E-Day has a required Day 1 update, according to a notice from Gears Community. If you hit an error when launching, close the game completely and check for an update. The notice says build 4879665 in the bottom-left corner of the main menu means you need to update.
How to check for the Gears of War: E-Day update
- Close the game entirely; do not leave it suspended or running in the background.
- Check your platform’s game library or update queue for an available update, then install it.
- Launch the game and look at the bottom-left corner of the main menu. If it shows build 4879665, the notice says the game needs an update.
These instructions come from Gears Community (@Community_Gears), identified by a profile mirror as the official Gears community and support account. The notice was reproduced by Gears Community; it is an account notice, not a full Xbox Wire patch report.

What the Day 1 patch announcement confirms—and what it doesn’t
The account describes the patch as required and recommends it as the response to launch errors. Its public notice does not give the download size, a complete list of fixes, or separate instructions and release notes for each platform. It therefore does not establish that the update changes particular gameplay systems, improves performance, or resolves specific stability issues.
Release and platform context
Xbox lists Gears of War: E-Day for global release on October 6, 2026, on Xbox Series X|S and PC. The game is also listed for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Xbox’s game page provides the current platform and availability details. Xbox Wire reported on September 17, 2026, that early access would start October 1 and pre-install would begin September 29. The earlier beta is separate from this update
The official beta FAQ said the beta included only a subset of the launch content and was intended to gather feedback ahead of release. It does not say that feedback is the source of any fixes in the Day 1 patch. The beta FAQ is useful context, but it is not a changelog for this update.
