Gears of War: Reloaded brings the 2006 original to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with cross-platform play and the original game’s post-launch content included. It launched on August 26, 2025. Here’s what the remaster contains, how co-op and cross-play work, and what to know about platform features and access.
What is Gears of War: Reloaded?
Gears of War: Reloaded is a remaster of the original Gears of War, rather than a new entry in the series. Xbox says it includes the bonus campaign act, multiplayer maps and modes, characters, and cosmetics released after the original game, with that content included at no additional cost. The official Gears page describes the game and its included content.
The game launched August 26, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5, and Steam, according to Xbox Wire’s announcement and PlayStation’s US game page.
Does Gears of War: Reloaded have cross-play?
Yes. Players on supported platforms can play together. Campaign supports two-player co-op, while Versus supports up to eight players. These are the game’s player-capacity limits, not estimates of its active audience.

Cross-play and cross-progression are separate features. Xbox’s launch guide says Microsoft account sign-in enables cross-platform invites and carries progression across devices; everyone in a cross-platform party must be signed into a Microsoft account. Xbox’s performance figures are announced specifications, not a guarantee that every platform configuration will output 4K or reach the stated frame rates. HDR, 4K, and 120 FPS also require compatible hardware and displays where applicable.

Is Gears of War: Reloaded on Game Pass?
Xbox Wire reported that the game was available on PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate on launch day, August 26, 2025. Subscription catalogs can change, so that launch report does not establish whether it is included in a particular plan or region today. Check the current catalog before subscribing for this game specifically. Xbox’s store listing provides a current place to check Xbox access.
How much does it cost, and can some owners upgrade for free?
Xbox Wire named $39.99 as the suggested retail price in its 2025 announcement and launch coverage. That is the publisher’s launch suggested retail price, not a current universal price; storefront prices vary by region and may change. Check the relevant platform store for today’s price.

Xbox’s terms offered a free upgrade to digital owners of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition who purchased it before the stated May 5, 2025 cutoff. The offer does not mean every owner qualifies, and purchases made after that cutoff were not covered by the stated eligibility.
