That is a player count—not a report that the game sold one million copies.
What the one-million figure means
Windows Central reported that the official Gears of War account thanked “1 million players.” The post did not provide a breakdown by platform, location or access method, and it does not establish how many people were playing concurrently. It should be read as a reported player milestone, not a sales figure. Windows Central’s August 31 report notes that the milestone does not mean one million copies sold.

Why players and sales are different measures
Gears of War: Reloaded launched on August 26, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Steam and PlayStation 5. At launch, it was also available through PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate. In addition, eligible Xbox players who had bought the digital Gears of War: Ultimate Edition before May 5, 2025, received a free upgrade. These routes mean that the player total can include people who did not buy a new copy of Reloaded. Microsoft and Windows Central did not publish a breakdown by purchase, subscription or free upgrade. Platforms and multiplayer support
Xbox described cross-play among Xbox, PlayStation and Steam. The campaign supports two-player co-op, while Versus supports up to eight participants. For the described cross-platform party play, players need to sign in with a Microsoft account; Xbox says that sign-in also enables cross-progression. The milestone report does not say how many of the million players used each platform or played together across platforms. Xbox Wire’s launch details explain the multiplayer features.

What the release includes
The publisher describes Reloaded as a remastered version with 4K assets, a 60 FPS campaign and multiplayer performance of up to 120 FPS. The official franchise page also lists the original game’s post-launch content as included: a bonus campaign act, multiplayer maps, characters and cosmetics. - How the million players divide across Xbox, PC, cloud and PlayStation 5.
- How many accessed the game through a purchase, Game Pass or the eligible free upgrade.
- Where players were located and how many were online at the same time.
Without those figures, the milestone shows the reported reach of the release but cannot establish sales, platform popularity or concurrent activity.
