Gex Trilogy is a worthwhile way to revisit three distinctly ’90s platformers, especially if you enjoy their television-inspired humor and can tolerate dated item hunts. The collection brings together the 2D original and two 3D sequels, with publisher-advertised rewind, save-anywhere and display options to make replay more convenient. Nintendo Life’s Tom Massey gave the Switch version 7/10, praising its personality and extras while noting that rough edges and fetch-quest progression have not aged as well.
Which games are in Gex Trilogy?
The collection includes the original Gex, Gex 2: Enter the Gecko and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko. Their shared setup sends wisecracking gecko Gex into the Media Dimension, where TV-themed stages and enemies stand between him and the villain Rez.

Nintendo Life reviewer Tom Massey found the third game the strongest and described it as smoother and more accomplished than its predecessors. That is his assessment of the collection, not a guarantee that every player will prefer its more open structure.
How well has the trilogy aged?
Massey’s 7/10 Switch review called the collection “a happy throwback.” He praised the games’ era-specific personality, inventive stages, art and music extras, and the convenience of rewind and save functions. His main reservation is that nostalgia does not remove the friction: the first game can feel clunky, and item hunting and fetch-quest progression can drag.

The appeal is therefore specific. Gex Trilogy is a stronger fit for players curious about the series’ evolution from 2D to 3D and its time-capsule mix of TV references and character-platforming design. If you expect contemporary pacing or dislike collecting items and revisiting stages, the older structure may outweigh the convenience features. These trade-offs reflect Massey’s review, rather than a consensus across reviewers.

Rewind and saving anywhere can make experimentation and short play sessions more forgiving. The display and control options also let players choose how to approach games made for older hardware, though they do not change the underlying level design or pacing.

The collection was listed for release on June 16, 2025, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam/PC. Choose based on the platform you prefer and whether you want a digital or physical copy; the available information does not establish a platform-specific gameplay advantage.

Store details and availability can vary by region and change over time. Check the live listing for your region, platform and format before buying. Limited physical editions were announced with a preorder deadline of July 6, 2025, but that historical announcement does not show that copies remain in stock.
Is Gex Trilogy suitable for younger players?
The ESRB rates Gex Trilogy Teen for Blood, Crude Humor, Fantasy Violence, Mild Language and Sexual Themes. Its summary cites tail attacks and some firearms, bloodstains in certain environments, sexual innuendo and suggestive signs or imagery, vomiting and flatulence, and mild language.
