Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut includes the original game, the Iki Island story expansion and several extras. Iki is playable on both PS4 and PS5; the PS5 edition adds platform-specific features such as DualSense support and Japanese voice lip sync. If you already own the PS4 game, your upgrade route depends on which edition you own and whether your copy is on disc.
What Director’s Cut adds to the original game
The main difference is the Iki Island expansion. Jin travels to the island to investigate a Mongol presence, and the story connects the journey to his past. Sony lists new environments, characters, armor for Jin and his horse, mini-games, techniques, enemy types, animals and trophies as part of the Iki content. The expansion is included in Director’s Cut on both PS4 and PS5; it is not exclusive to PS5. Sony’s 2021 edition announcement describes the content and platform availability.
Other content bundled with Director’s Cut
The current US PlayStation Store listing also identifies Legends online co-op mode, a digital mini art book, director’s commentary, one Technique Point, the Charm of Hachiman’s Favor and the Hero of Tsushima Skin Set as included. See the PS4 listing or PS5 listing for the edition’s listed contents.
What the PS5 version adds
The PS5 edition includes the same Iki Island story as the PS4 Director’s Cut, plus features that use the newer console’s hardware:

These are the documented PS5 additions; they do not make Iki a PS5-only expansion. The feature details and qualifications are listed in Sony’s announcement and the PS5 Store listing.
Which updates are not exclusive to Director’s Cut?
Sony also announced updates for existing owners of the original game, including accessibility options for alternate controller layouts, target lock-on and the ability to hide the quiver. Sony said Legends updates would be free to all owners on either platform. These announced updates should not be confused with the paid Director’s Cut content. The announcement distinguishes those updates from the new edition’s additions.

Edition and upgrade options
The table gives the historical US launch prices announced by Sony in 2021 and the prices displayed on the US PlayStation Store when accessed on October 8, 2026. Store prices can change; the displayed amounts are a dated US snapshot, not a guarantee of today’s price in another region or retailer.

What PS4 disc owners need to know
If you upgrade a PS4 disc copy to the PS5 digital edition, you must insert the PS4 disc each time you download or play the PS5 upgrade. Sony also says the discounted disc-upgrade path is unavailable on the disc-free PS5 Digital Edition. Check the PS5 Store page before choosing a route, particularly if you own a disc-free console.

Which version should you choose?
- Choose PS4 Director’s Cut if you want the Iki expansion and bundled extras on PS4.
- Choose PS5 Director’s Cut if you want those contents plus the PS5-specific audiovisual and controller features.
- If you already own the original PS4 game, compare the current upgrade offer with the full edition price, and confirm whether your copy is digital or disc before buying.
