If Ghost of Yōtei is running poorly, crashing, freezing, or failing to launch, first install the latest game update available on your PS5. Sucker Punch’s patch notes document performance and stability fixes—including fixes for some rare crashes—but they do not identify the cause of every individual problem or guarantee that an update will resolve it.
1. Update Ghost of Yōtei before troubleshooting further
Check the game’s installed version and install any update available for your console. The official Sucker Punch patch history lists fixes by version, so you can check whether an update addresses a symptom like yours.
The Day 1 update, dated September 30, 2025, included improvements to environmental rendering performance, lighting consistency and performance in Ray Tracing Mode, and performance and stability in Photo Mode. It also addressed performance in missions with many characters, uncommon crashes during extended play or idle periods, and rare crashes when loading certain saves.
In patch 1.010, dated October 17, 2025, Sucker Punch fixed a rare crash that could occur with ray tracing enabled. If you use a ray-tracing mode, confirm you have this update or a later one; this fix applies to that specific issue, not necessarily to every crash associated with the mode.

The latest version listed in Sucker Punch’s support index when checked on October 3, 2026, was patch 1.602. Its April 24, 2026 notes say, “Various rare crash fixes.” That general note does not guarantee that all crashes are fixed.
2. Identify when and how the problem happens
Once the game is updated, note the pattern before changing settings or contacting support. These details can help narrow down the issue, but they do not prove its cause.

- When it happens: distinguish a failure to launch from a crash or freeze during play. If it happens during play, note whether it follows extended play or an idle period.
- Which console you use: note whether it is a standard PS5, PS5 Slim, or PS5 Pro.
- Game version and error: record the installed version and the exact error code or message, if one appears.
- Display mode: note your selected display or ray-tracing mode, especially if the issue appears with ray tracing enabled.
- Save pattern: note whether the issue occurs with one save or across multiple saves.
Use the patch history to compare the version and symptom with fixes already documented. A match may be relevant, but a patch note alone cannot diagnose a particular console or save.
3. Contact PlayStation Support if the issue persists
If the game is up to date and still will not launch or continues to crash, use PlayStation’s game support contact route. Include your PS5 model, game version, exact error code or message, when the problem occurs, display or ray-tracing mode, and whether it affects one save or several. Those details give support a clearer picture of the failure.

Avoid deleting saved data as a general troubleshooting step: the reviewed official game materials do not establish that as a reliable fix, and deletion could cost you progress. Reinstalling is likewise not a guaranteed solution in the official materials reviewed.

Ghost of Yōtei is a PS5 exclusive, with PS5 Pro support, according to PlayStation’s game page. Sony does not list PS4 or PC as supported platforms there, so this guide covers the PS5 version rather than PC settings or fixes.
