The “Unable to locate Uplay PC. Please reinstall Uplay PC” message points to a problem detecting or starting Ubisoft’s PC launcher. “Uplay PC” is the older name; Ubisoft’s current support pages call the app Ubisoft Connect PC. Try launching and updating Ubisoft Connect first, then check login status, permissions and security-software blocks. If those checks fail, use Ubisoft’s official reinstall steps. Ubisoft does not identify a confirmed cause or guaranteed fix for this exact Wildlands error.
1. Open Ubisoft Connect PC before starting Wildlands
- Open Ubisoft Connect PC directly and sign in to the account that owns or has access to the game.
- Check that the launcher is not in Offline mode if Wildlands needs an online sign-in or update. Ubisoft notes that offline mode can affect game functionality and prevents updates from installing automatically. See Ubisoft’s login troubleshooting guidance.
- Once the launcher is open and signed in, try starting Wildlands from the storefront you normally use, such as Steam, or from Ubisoft Connect.
If Ubisoft Connect itself will not open or sign in, address that launcher problem before changing game files.
2. Update the launcher and check permissions
Ubisoft says an outdated Ubisoft Connect PC app can cause login issues. Check for an update, then close and reopen the launcher. You can also try running Ubisoft Connect with administrator rights. Ubisoft’s current installation and reinstall instructions say to download the latest installer, run it as administrator, and restart the PC after installation.
If your firewall or antivirus is blocking Ubisoft Connect, use the security software vendor’s instructions to allow the app. Do not turn off protection broadly as a troubleshooting shortcut; first establish whether a block is occurring.

3. Reinstall Ubisoft Connect PC if the checks above do not help
Ubisoft’s reinstall procedure is a reasonable next step for a launcher detection or startup problem, but it is not documented as a guaranteed fix for this particular message. Back up save files before uninstalling.
- Close Ubisoft Connect PC.
- Uninstall the desktop application. Ubisoft says the uninstall flow lets you choose whether to keep installed games and local saves.
- Delete the launcher’s
Cachefolder. Ubisoft lists the default launcher location asC:Program Files (x86)UbisoftUbisoft Game Launcher; the actual location may differ if you installed it elsewhere. - Download and install the latest Ubisoft Connect PC installer using administrator rights.
- Restart the PC, open Ubisoft Connect, sign in, and try Wildlands again.
Follow Ubisoft’s current reinstall instructions if the available options or paths differ on your system.

4. Try broader Wildlands PC troubleshooting only if the launcher works
Ubisoft developer support has suggested general PC checks for Wildlands, including clearing Ubisoft Connect and Steam caches, selecting the dedicated GPU, trying Windows 11 compatibility mode, running Windows System File Checker (SFC), and checking service status for connection trouble. Use these checks after confirming that Ubisoft Connect opens and is signed in. Change one setting at a time and retry the game so you can tell whether a particular change affected the launch problem.

5. Avoid unofficial launcher-file fixes
Community posts discuss replacing Uplay-related DLL files or editing launcher files, but Ubisoft’s cited support guidance does not recommend those methods for this error. Avoid downloading replacement DLLs from unofficial sites or modifying launcher files: those steps are not an official fix and can create security or stability risks.

Give support the exact error text, whether you start the game through Steam or Ubisoft Connect, your launcher and Windows versions, and the steps you have already tried. For persistent Ubisoft Connect connectivity issues, Ubisoft asks users to provide DxDiag and MSInfo reports; its connectivity troubleshooting page explains that support route.
