gi90.dll errors usually appear when WordPerfect Office 2000 cannot load one of its original program files. The file is not a Windows system DLL and should not be downloaded into System32 or SysWOW64.
Errors caused by gi90.dll
You may see one of these messages when starting WordPerfect Office 2000 or another component from the suite:
This application failed to start because gi90.dll was not found.
The file gi90.dll is missing or corrupted.
A required component is missing: gi90.dll. Please install the application again.
Error loading gi90.dll. The specified module could not be found.
The program can't start because gi90.dll is missing from your computer.
Windows may also display:
gi90.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error
That last message is a general loader error. It does not mean that gi90.dll belongs to Windows. It can indicate a damaged legacy binary, a missing dependency, an incomplete installation, or compatibility trouble.
The 60-second answer
gi90.dll is a 32-bit application DLL associated with WordPerfect (R) Office 2000. Its reported description is PerfectFit Graphics Interface, and its publisher is Corel Corporation Limited.

The safest repair is:
- Check your antivirus quarantine.
- Use WordPerfect Office 2000’s Repair or Change option if available.
- If repair is unavailable, reinstall the complete suite from the original CD, installer, or verified backup.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
- Do not copy a replacement DLL into
System32,SysWOW64, or the Windows directory.
The file historically belongs in the WordPerfect Office 2000 program directory, commonly a folder named PROGRAMS. It is not a general-purpose Windows component.
What causes the error
The WordPerfect installation is incomplete
This is the most likely cause when the error appears immediately after launching WordPerfect Office 2000. The file may have been deleted, damaged, or left behind when the suite was only partially installed.
Antivirus software quarantined the file
Security software can remove an old application file if it considers the binary suspicious or cannot establish its reputation. This does not prove that every copy of gi90.dll is malicious, and it does not make an internet replacement safe.
Only part of the application was migrated
Copying WPWIN.exe, a shortcut, or a few DLLs from an older computer does not reproduce a complete installation. Legacy software may also require configuration files, fonts, registry entries, shared components, and installer data.

“Specified module could not be found” can appear even when gi90.dll is visibly present. The missing item may be a dependency that Windows needs before it can load the named DLL.
The legacy application is incompatible with the current Windows release
WordPerfect Office 2000 predates Windows 10 and Windows 11. A 64-bit version of Windows can run many 32-bit applications, but compatibility is not guaranteed. Compatibility mode may help with an otherwise complete installation, but it cannot recreate a missing file.
Windows itself is damaged
This is possible but less likely. Since gi90.dll is a third-party application file, Windows repair commands normally will not restore it.
Fix 1: Check antivirus quarantine first
Do this before reinstalling anything if the problem began after a security scan.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWindows Security
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Privacy & security.
- Select Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving WordPerfect Office 2000 or
gi90.dll. - Expand the event and review its location and detection details.
If the file was removed from the WordPerfect program directory and the original installation is known to be legitimate, use the available restore action only if you understand the detection and trust the installation source.
Do not restore a file downloaded from an unknown DLL site. If the file was quarantined during or immediately after installation, reinstalling from the original media is safer than restoring an isolated copy.
If Windows Security does not show the event, open the protection-history or quarantine area for any third-party antivirus product installed on the computer.
How to tell whether this worked
Launch WordPerfect Office 2000 again. If it opens normally, the quarantine event caused the failure. If the same error returns, the file may still be damaged, another dependency may be missing, or the antivirus may remove it again.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If the file repeatedly disappears, do not keep restoring it blindly. Scan the original installer or backup, confirm that the application source is trustworthy, and contact the security vendor if the detection appears incorrect.
Fix 2: Repair WordPerfect Office 2000
Windows exposes different repair controls depending on how the old program was installed.
Try Windows app repair
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find WordPerfect Office 2000.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if that option exists.
- Select Repair.
Older desktop applications often do not expose this control. If it is absent, use Control Panel instead.
Try Control Panel repair or Change
- Press Windows + R.
- Type:
appwiz.cpl
- Press Enter.
- Select WordPerfect Office 2000.
- Choose Repair, Change, or Modify.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows when the process finishes.
Some installers ask for the original CD or the location of the installation files. Use the same release media that was used to install the suite.
Confirm the application directory
Do not use a search result from an unrelated folder as proof that the file is installed correctly.
To locate the program:
- Right-click the WordPerfect shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Review the Target field.
- Select Open File Location, if available.
- Look in the application’s own directory, including a
PROGRAMSfolder.
A historical WordPerfect Office 2000 installation placed Gi90.dll in the suite’s PROGRAMS directory. The capitalization of the filename does not matter, but the location does.
How to tell whether repair worked
A successful repair should restore the file to the WordPerfect installation directory and allow the affected component to start. If the installer completes but the error remains, restart Windows and try the full reinstall procedure below.
Fix 3: Reinstall the complete suite from legitimate media
Use this when Repair or Change is unavailable, fails, or reports that the source files cannot be found.
Before uninstalling, make sure you have:
- The original WordPerfect Office 2000 CD or installer
- A legitimate backup of the installer
- Any required product key or license information
- Copies of your personal documents and templates
Then:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type:
appwiz.cpl
- Press Enter.
- Select WordPerfect Office 2000.
- Select Uninstall or Remove.
- Follow the prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the original installer as an administrator.
- Install the complete suite rather than copying individual program files.
- Restart Windows again.
- Launch WordPerfect, Quattro Pro, and any other component you normally use.
To run the installer as administrator, right-click its setup program and select Run as administrator.
Do not substitute a DLL from CorelDRAW, another WordPerfect release, or another computer. Similarly named files may belong to different products or versions.
If the installer cannot find its source files
The installation media may be damaged, the optical drive may no longer be available, or the setup files may have been copied incompletely. Use a verified backup or an official vendor-supported source for the same release. Do not fill the missing file manually from an unrelated download.
How to tell whether reinstalling worked
Check the WordPerfect installation directory and confirm that the installer restored its program files. Then launch the application from its installed shortcut rather than from a copied executable.
If WordPerfect starts but another suite component fails, that component may have additional missing files. Repair or reinstall the complete suite again instead of adding individual DLLs.
Fix 4: Check whether the file exists but cannot load
If gi90.dll is in the correct WordPerfect directory, the message may refer to a dependency or compatibility problem.
Confirm the path
Use the shortcut’s Properties dialog to identify the application directory. Make sure the file is located beside the application that is trying to load it, not only in:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- A temporary folder
- A downloads folder
- An unrelated Corel product folder
Windows searches an application’s directory as part of its DLL loading process. Moving the file to a system directory can create version conflicts and does not install the dependencies that WordPerfect expects.
Investigate dependencies carefully
A trusted dependency-analysis utility can show whether the DLL refers to another missing module. Use such a tool only from a reputable source and inspect the complete application installation.
Do not respond to a missing dependency by downloading a series of similarly named DLLs. That approach can mix incompatible files and make the original installation harder to repair.
If the dependency is another WordPerfect component, reinstall the suite. If the dependency is a legacy Windows component, research that component separately before adding anything to the system.
Try compatibility settings
After restoring a complete installation:
- Right-click the WordPerfect executable or shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Choose an older Windows version.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Launch the application.
Compatibility settings vary by system. If the program still fails, try running it as administrator from the same tab, but use that setting only when necessary.

Fix 5: Repair Windows components only if Windows has broader problems
DISM and System File Checker repair Windows components. They normally do not recreate a third-party WordPerfect DLL, so use them as secondary diagnostics rather than the primary solution.
Run DISM
- Open Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to finish.
- Restart Windows.
Run System File Checker
Open an elevated Command Prompt again and run:
sfc /scannow
Wait until the scan reaches 100 percent, then restart Windows.
If SFC reports that it repaired Windows files, test WordPerfect again. If it reports that no integrity violations were found, that does not clear the WordPerfect installation because gi90.dll is not a protected Windows file.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Running these commands repeatedly will not restore an application DLL that was removed from the WordPerfect folder.
The manual process of running DISM and SFC, interpreting their output, and determining what changed can be time-consuming. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for broader Windows issues and identify repair targets, while its full version performs the repair; it is optional, and reinstalling WordPerfect remains the definitive fix for a missing application file.
Fix 6: Do not register gi90.dll with regsvr32
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration functions such as DllRegisterServer, commonly ActiveX controls and COM components.
There is no reliable evidence that gi90.dll is a COM or ActiveX registration DLL. These commands are therefore not a general repair:
regsvr32 gi90.dll
regsvr32 /i gi90.dll
A registration error does not restore a missing dependency. It can also distract from the actual fix, which is repairing or reinstalling WordPerfect Office 2000.
Use regsvr32 only when the software vendor specifically identifies the DLL as a registration component and supplies the correct command.
Fix 7: Do not install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET at random
There is no verified indication that Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, or .NET installs gi90.dll. These packages serve different runtime purposes and are not substitutes for the WordPerfect Office 2000 installer.
Installing unrelated runtime packages can add maintenance without restoring the application file. Use a runtime installer only when the original application documentation or an identified dependency specifically requires it.
Fix 8: Treat driver updates as a separate issue
A display or printer driver can affect how an old graphics-oriented application behaves, but updating a driver will not normally recreate gi90.dll.
If WordPerfect launches but displays graphics incorrectly, prints improperly, or crashes after opening a document, check the relevant driver:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, Printers, or the relevant device category.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
Use the hardware manufacturer’s official support channel when Windows cannot find a suitable driver. Do not remove a working driver solely because gi90.dll is missing.
Finding stale drivers manually across several hardware categories can involve repeated version checks and restarts. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for driver issues and identify available installs, while driver installation through its full version is optional; it does not replace repairing WordPerfect Office 2000.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Why System32 and SysWOW64 are wrong locations
A 64-bit Windows installation uses System32 for system components and SysWOW64 for compatibility-related 32-bit system components. Their names do not make them universal storage locations for application DLLs.
gi90.dll is a 32-bit application file. WordPerfect should load its matching copy from the WordPerfect installation directory. Copying it into either Windows directory can:
- Create conflicts with another file of the same name
- Cause the wrong program to load the wrong version
- Leave the WordPerfect installation incomplete
- Increase security and maintenance problems
- Hide additional missing dependencies
A 64-bit Windows system does not need a second 64-bit copy of this file.
If the problem began after moving to a new PC
A complete migration is safer than copying the old program folder.
Recommended Free Tools
- Back up your WordPerfect documents, templates, macros, and custom dictionaries.
- Obtain the original WordPerfect Office 2000 installer or verified backup.
- Install the complete suite on the new computer.
- Restore personal files separately.
- Test the application before adding custom files.
- Apply only updates intended for that exact release.
If you copied only the executable and DLL files, remove that incomplete copy and reinstall properly. A folder copied from an old drive may lack registry entries, shared components, fonts, and installer information.
If every repair attempt fails
If the software is business-critical, consider running the complete legacy installation inside a supported virtual machine or retaining an older compatible Windows environment. Keep the original installation media and a backup of your working environment.
You can also try System Restore when a restore point clearly predates the disappearance:
- Open Start.
- Search for Create a restore point.
- Open it.
- Select System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
- Review the affected programs.
- Confirm the restore.
System Restore changes system files, settings, and installed programs. It does not replace personal documents, so maintain a separate backup.
Frequently asked questions
Is gi90.dll a Windows file?
No. It is associated with Corel WordPerfect Office 2000 and is not a standard Windows component.
Which program installed gi90.dll?
The strongest association is WordPerfect (R) Office 2000. The suite also includes applications such as Quattro Pro and Presentations, but the available evidence does not establish every component that may load this particular file.
Is gi90.dll 32-bit or 64-bit?
It is reported as a Win32, or 32-bit, DLL. A 64-bit Windows installation can run many 32-bit applications, but that does not mean the file belongs in SysWOW64.
Should I download gi90.dll from a DLL website?
No. An arbitrary copy may contain malware, belong to another release, use the wrong architecture, or lack the other files WordPerfect needs. Restore the complete application from original media or a verified backup.
Does regsvr32 fix gi90.dll?
Normally no. There is no evidence that this file is a COM or ActiveX registration DLL. Repair or reinstall WordPerfect instead.
Why does Windows say the file is not designed to run on Windows?
That wording is a generic loader failure. It can result from corruption, a missing dependency, architecture mismatch, or legacy compatibility problems. It does not prove that the file is a Windows DLL.
What if the file exists but WordPerfect still reports it as missing?
Check that it is in the correct WordPerfect program directory. Then repair or reinstall the complete suite and investigate dependencies. A file can exist while one of its required dependencies is absent.
Is WordPerfect Office 2000 supported on Windows 10 or Windows 11?
Current WordPerfect products target modern Windows releases, but that does not establish current support for WordPerfect Office 2000. Even when the old suite installs, successful operation is not guaranteed.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Will installing Microsoft Visual C++ fix the problem?
There is no verified reason to expect it to restore gi90.dll. This file belongs to the WordPerfect application, so the original installer is the appropriate source.
What is the safest final fix?
Use the original WordPerfect Office 2000 installation media or a legitimate, verified backup to repair or reinstall the complete suite. Keep the restored DLL in the application’s own directory and avoid system-folder copies.
