The Gigabyte MO27Q28GR is a 27-inch, 1440p OLED gaming monitor with a glossy screen and a 280Hz refresh rate. Its $599.99 list-price signal is not the best price this model has reached: a June 2026 report recorded it at $479.99. At around $480, it is compelling if you want glossy Tandem WOLED and can control room reflections; at $599.99, compare it with the cheaper matte MO27Q28G and other OLEDs before buying.

What Tandem OLED means—and what it does not
The MO27Q28GR uses a WOLED panel built around LG Display’s fourth-generation Primary RGB Tandem OLED technology. A tandem structure stacks emissive layers, a design intended to improve brightness and panel efficiency compared with older WOLED generations. It remains WOLED, not QD-OLED.

The “RGB” in Gigabyte’s branding should not be read as a promise of a conventional RGB-stripe pixel layout. Independent testing of the closely related matte MO27Q28G identifies a subpixel arrangement that can cause colored fringing or fuzziness around small text. RTINGS treats the MO27Q28G and glossy MO27Q28GR as the same broad panel platform with different screen coatings; its direct testing cited here is of the matte model, not the GR.

Glossy GR or matte G?
The model suffix matters. The MO27Q28GR is glossy; the MO27Q28G is matte. They share the 27-inch, 1440p, 280Hz Tandem WOLED platform, so the main decision is how the surface behaves in your room rather than a different core gaming specification.
| MO27Q28GR | MO27Q28G | |
|---|---|---|
| Surface | Glossy anti-reflection | Matte |
| Best fit | Controlled lighting, dark-room play, or a preference for a clearer-looking image | Bright or mixed lighting, or a preference for less mirror-like reflections |
| Trade-off | Can reflect lamps and windows directly | Diffuses reflections but can make the image look less clear or punchy to some viewers |
| Core panel platform | Fourth-generation Tandem WOLED, 2560 × 1440, up to 280Hz | |
Glossy is not automatically better. It can preserve a clean, high-contrast appearance, especially in a controlled room, but a window or bright lamp reflected behind you may be more distracting than the diffusion from a matte coating. “Anti-reflection” does not mean reflection-free. If you cannot control light sources in front of the screen, the matte G or another matte monitor may be the safer choice.
How much does 280Hz help?
At 1440p, 280Hz is most useful in competitive games when your PC can deliver very high frame rates. The frame-time budget falls as refresh rate rises: 144Hz is about 6.94ms per frame, 165Hz about 6.06ms, 240Hz about 4.17ms, and 280Hz about 3.57ms. Those figures are simple calculations from refresh rate, not monitor response-time or input-lag measurements.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The step from 144Hz to 280Hz can matter to players who are sensitive to motion clarity and play games that run fast. The gains become progressively smaller as you move from already-high refresh rates, and the display cannot make a game produce more frames. At 1440p, both a capable GPU and CPU are needed to approach 280 frames per second in demanding games. For slower single-player games, HDR presentation, image quality, resolution, and price may matter more than moving from 240Hz to 280Hz. You can also run the monitor at a lower supported refresh rate when a game or system cannot sustain the maximum.
Gigabyte’s 0.03ms GTG figure is a manufacturer-rated pixel-response claim, not total system latency or input lag. It does not mean every pixel transition takes exactly the same time under all conditions. OLED pixels are generally fast; frame rate, refresh settings, processing, and variable-refresh behavior are also important to the experience.
Brightness and HDR: read the test conditions
OLED contrast gives dark scenes deep blacks, while the monitor’s VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification identifies an HDR standard. But the headline 1,500-nit figure needs context: Gigabyte lists it as a typical HDR peak at 1.5% average picture level, a very small bright area. It is not a promise that the whole screen can sustain 1,500 nits. Gigabyte separately lists 335 cd/m² typical full-screen SDR brightness at 100% APL. HDR brightness varies with the size of bright areas, picture mode, firmware, and other operating conditions.
The wide-gamut specifications—99.5% DCI-P3 and 84% BT.2020—are also manufacturer figures. Buyers who prioritize saturated color volume may prefer to compare QD-OLED models, while this Tandem WOLED’s appeal includes its brightness profile. Independent testing of the matte sibling has reported image-tuning issues, including crushed SDR midtones and a red tint in some gray shades; results may vary by unit and settings, and should not be treated as guaranteed defects on the glossy GR.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesText clarity and everyday desktop use
This is primarily a gaming monitor, not an ideal choice for everyone who spends the workday reading documents or coding. A 27-inch 1440p display has about 109 pixels per inch, and the OLED subpixel arrangement can make small text look fringed or less crisp than on a conventional-layout LCD. The panel’s “RGB Tandem” name does not remove that concern.

OLED also brings a different risk profile for desktop use: taskbars, application controls, and other static elements can increase the chance of permanent burn-in over time. If office work, text sharpness, or keeping static windows open for long periods is your priority, compare a 4K IPS monitor or a 4K display with a subpixel layout better suited to your needs. Those options may sacrifice OLED’s contrast or high refresh rate, but may be a better match for productivity.

The two HDMI 2.1 inputs are useful for connecting modern consoles and other devices, while DisplayPort 1.4 is a PC option. HDMI 2.1 does not mean a console will use the panel’s full 280Hz: current consoles generally target up to 120Hz. Check the console, cable, monitor firmware, and exact signal mode for compatibility rather than assuming every feature works at its maximum.
USB-C supports Alternate Mode, but Gigabyte lists power delivery of only up to 18W. That can suit a phone, tablet, handheld, or some thin-and-light devices; it is not a substitute for a typical high-power laptop dock. The USB hub includes one upstream connection and two USB 3.2 downstream ports. The stand offers height, tilt, swivel, and pivot adjustment, and the monitor supports 100 × 100mm VESA mounting.
OLED care, burn-in, and warranty
OLED pixels can suffer permanent burn-in after prolonged uneven wear from static content such as logos, taskbars, or fixed application panels. Temporary image retention can also occur. Gigabyte advertises AI OLED Care and burn-in protection features, but these reduce risk; they do not make burn-in impossible. Panel-care or pixel-refresh routines may run automatically and interrupt use, while OLED protection systems can adjust brightness. Dark scenes may also reveal vertical or gray banding, and variable-refresh-rate flicker can occur when frame rates fluctuate.
PC Gamer has reported a three-year warranty for this model, but warranty length and burn-in coverage can vary by region and seller. Before purchase, read the warranty terms for your country and confirm whether burn-in is explicitly covered; do not assume that a stated warranty period includes it.
Price and buying advice
Price context, not a live quote: $599.99 is a list/reference-price signal, not proof of the lowest current street price. PC Gamer documented the glossy GR at $479.99 on June 16, 2026. Separately, a Newegg listing captured on August 18, 2026 showed the matte MO27Q28G at $399.99; that is not evidence that the glossy GR costs the same. Prices and stock change, so check the live listing immediately before ordering.
- About $480 or less: a strong value if you specifically want a glossy 1440p Tandem OLED and can manage reflections.
- $500–$550: reasonable if the glossy coating and this panel platform are priorities.
- At $599.99: buy only if those strengths justify paying the reference price for you; otherwise compare the matte sibling and alternatives or wait for a sale.
- Above $599.99: waiting or comparing another model is sensible unless local availability makes the premium worthwhile.
Before checkout, verify the complete model number, seller, item condition, warranty, shipping, and final price. Retail titles can be vague: check that the listing says MO27Q28GR if you want glossy, rather than the matte MO27Q28G.

Alternatives to consider
- Gigabyte MO27Q28G: the closest comparison—same broad 1440p, 280Hz Tandem WOLED platform with a matte finish. Prefer it if your room is bright, reflections bother you, or its price is substantially lower.
- LG 27GX700A-B: another 27-inch, 1440p, 280Hz fourth-generation Tandem WOLED option with a matte surface. RTINGS found the LG and Gigabyte platforms broadly similar, with differences in image tuning. It is worth comparing if you want Tandem WOLED but not a glossy coating.
- ASUS ROG Strix OLED XG27AQWMG: a glossy 1440p, 280Hz Tandem OLED alternative. Compare its image tuning and connectivity with Gigabyte’s; check the exact port configuration before buying.
- MSI MPG 271QRX QD-OLED or Dell Alienware AW2725DF: QD-OLED alternatives for shoppers who value vivid color volume. They use a different panel technology, so compare coating, text rendering, ambient-light behavior, HDR brightness, and price rather than treating them as identical substitutes.
- 4K IPS or OLED: consider these if your priority is sharper text and more desktop workspace rather than the MO27Q28GR’s 1440p, 280Hz gaming focus.
