Pokémon GO Hub’s August 2025 guide names Gigantamax Rillaboom as its leading attacker, but Grass Pokémon are vulnerable to Lapras’s possible Ice attacks. Build a party for damage, survival, and support rather than relying on a single counter ranking.
What is Gigantamax Lapras weak to?
Pokémon GO Hub’s August 2025 guide identifies Electric, Fighting, Grass, and Rock attacks as super effective against Water/Ice-type Lapras. That gives you several ways to build a team; no one type is established as best for every roster or every Lapras moveset.
Grass attackers can deal effective damage, but the same guide warns that Lapras may use Ice attacks that hurt Grass Pokémon. Weigh that risk against the damage your available counters can deliver, and consider how long each Pokémon can stay in battle while the Max Meter fills.
Best Gigantamax Lapras counters
The following Pokémon appear in Pokémon GO Hub’s August 22, 2025 attacker recommendations. Rillaboom leads that guide; the list is a set of source-supported options, not a guarantee that one choice will outperform every team in practice.

| Pokémon | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Gigantamax Rillaboom | The guide’s leading attacker. It is a Grass option, so account for Lapras’s possible Ice attacks. |
| Gigantamax Machamp | A recommended Fighting-type attacker. |
| Gigantamax Toxtricity | A recommended attacker that can make use of Electric attacks. |
| Gigantamax Venusaur | A recommended Grass attacker; consider its exposure to Ice attacks. |
| Dynamax Urshifu | Another attacker named by the guide. |
| Dynamax Zapdos | An additional attacker option named by the guide. |
Pokémon GO Hub’s companion counter database also places Rillaboom, Machamp, Toxtricity, and Venusaur among its leading damage options. Its ranking is specifically a Max-phase damage calculation: it assumes level-three Max Moves, no lag, and three consecutive Max Attacks. It does not account for every difference in a player’s roster, execution, or survival, so treat it as an idealized damage comparison rather than a universal battle order. Build a party around battle roles
For a Gigantamax battle, choose Pokémon not only for the damage they can deal in the Max phase but also for what they contribute while the Max Meter charges. Pokémon GO Hub recommends combining attackers with a tank or defender and a healer.

- Attacker: Use your strongest available options from the counter list. Grass attackers can be effective, but Lapras’s Ice moves are a relevant risk.
- Defender and meter charger: Favor staying power and a quick Fast Move. Pokémon GO Hub names Crowned Shield Zamazenta among its defender choices.
- Healer: Pokémon GO Hub recommends Blissey. Max Spirit heals the user and allies, while Max Guard reduces incoming damage, according to Niantic’s Max Battle overview.
A Pokémon that charges the meter quickly or protects teammates may be more useful during the ordinary turns than a higher-ranked damage dealer that is at risk of being knocked out. Coordinate roles with your group, then use your attackers when the Max phase begins.
Charge the Max Meter efficiently
Use quick Fast Moves to build the Max Meter. Pokémon GO Hub advises against spending time on Charged Moves during Gigantamax battles because, according to its guide, they take longer without providing more Max Energy per use than Fast Moves. Niantic also says players can swipe toward energy appearing on the battlefield to fill the meter faster. When the meter fills, the Max Pokémon transforms for three turns. See Niantic’s Max Battle mechanics for the general battle flow.

Prepare for Lapras’s possible moves
Pokémon GO Hub’s August 2025 guide lists these moves for Lapras:
- Fast Moves: Psywave, Water Gun, Ice Shard, and Frost Breath.
- Charged Moves: Hydro Pump, Surf, Ice Beam, Blizzard, Skull Bash, and Sparkling Aria.
The guide says Gigantamax bosses use two charged moves from their pool: one that damages active Pokémon and a stronger single-target move that can be dodged. Because move availability and game balance can change, check the current in-game information rather than assuming this dated move list is permanent. The possibility of Ice attacks is especially important when deciding how much of your team to devote to Grass counters.

Coordinate around knockouts and party limits
Niantic’s Help Center says a Gigantamax Max Battle can include up to 20 Trainers, and each Trainer can bring no more than three Max Pokémon. If all three are knocked out, they do not recover before the battle ends; the Trainer can cheer to help fill teammates’ Max Meters. Those rules make role coverage and avoiding unnecessary knockouts important in a difficult group battle. See Niantic’s Max Battles and Catching Max Pokémon help page.

Niantic’s official announcement described Max Mushrooms as temporarily doubling damage from Fast Attacks, Charged Attacks, and Max Moves during a Max Battle, until the item’s timer expires. The cited announcement was for Lapras’s debut event on December 8, 2024, so its event details are historical—not evidence of a current or upcoming Lapras battle.
