GIPHY Arcade is a browser-based collection of short games that you can play, customize with GIPHY stickers and GIFs, and share as a playable link. Its documented creation flow is template-based: you choose a game structure and change its visual elements rather than building new mechanics or writing code. GIPHY still maintains an Arcade help page and links to the service, but that documentation alone does not confirm that every feature works today.
What is GIPHY Arcade?
Arcade puts GIPHY media inside simple, short-form games. GIPHY describes it as a way to play, remix, and share microgames, with access through a desktop or mobile browser. The defining feature is the combination of a fixed game template and GIF or sticker imagery—not a general-purpose game engine. GIPHY’s Arcade guide documents the templates and creation flow.
“Microgame” here means a game meant for a quick interaction, using gestures such as tapping, dragging, flinging, or swiping. The appeal is immediacy and a personal, meme-friendly presentation, not deep progression or long play sessions. When Arcade launched on October 16, 2019, Digital Trends described it as a no-download way to make and play short games.
How to play
- Open arcade.giphy.com in a desktop or mobile browser.
- Choose a game from Featured Playlists or Shareable Games.
- Follow the game’s on-screen instruction. GIPHY lists tap, drag, fling, and swipe as possible controls; the prompt shown by the game indicates which applies.
- Choose Next Game to move through the current playlist, or use Skip to advance to another available game.
Playlist mode presents a sequence; an individual shareable game is a single game. GIPHY documents both navigation controls, but does not say that every game uses the same gesture or behaves identically.

How to remix a game on desktop
GIPHY’s documented desktop workflow lets you make explicit choices for several parts of a game:
- Select Remix and choose a gameplay template.
- Search or browse GIPHY Stickers to choose game characters.
- Choose a background GIF.
- Choose a soundtrack, then name the game.
This is customization of a prepared structure: you change the characters and presentation while the selected template supplies the gameplay rules. The documented workflow does not describe source-code editing, custom levels, or creating new mechanics.

How mobile remixing differs
On mobile web, GIPHY describes a faster, more automated, “mad-libs”-style flow:
- Select Remix and choose a gameplay type.
- Enter search terms to populate the characters.
- Select Make My Game.
The title, background, soundtrack, and characters are then assembled automatically. Compared with desktop, this process gives you less direct control over the final combination.

These are limits of the documented workflow, not proof that every undocumented capability is impossible. For a reader, the practical distinction is that “make a game” means configure a template-based remix, not design a conventional game from scratch.

GIPHY’s stated sharing method is to copy and paste the game URL. The recipient gets a playable game link rather than just an exported GIF or video. A link is convenient, but it depends on Arcade and the relevant hosted assets remaining available. Also, a social service may show only a link preview rather than preserve the interactive experience; the documentation does not guarantee interactive embeds everywhere.

GIPHY says credits can be opened for individual GIF and sticker content, and documents a Report control for problematic material. A remix can combine multiple media items with separate attribution. The fact that an asset appears in GIPHY’s library does not establish that it is cleared for a commercial advertisement, merchandise, or other paid use. Check the applicable rights before using a game or its component media commercially, and report content that violates GIPHY’s rules instead of reposting it.
Is GIPHY Arcade still available?
As of August 18, 2026, GIPHY’s official Arcade help page remains available and links to the Arcade site. That establishes that GIPHY still documents and points users to the service; it does not independently confirm that every documented game, remix control, or sharing feature is currently operational. The prominent launch coverage is from 2019, so it should be treated as historical context rather than a current interface review.

Who is it for—and what is it not?
- A good fit: someone after a quick browser diversion, a personalized joke or challenge to send to friends, or a low-commitment way to assemble a GIF-centric mini-game.
- A poor fit: someone who needs custom physics, level design, persistent progression, native-app export, precise performance or accessibility control, or clear commercial rights to every third-party asset.
- Not the same as GIPHY’s media makers: the GIPHY creation-tools category groups Arcade with tools for making GIFs, stickers, text, and filters, but those outputs are not interchangeable. GIF Maker creates animated media; Sticker Maker creates stickers; Arcade puts media into an interactive game template. GIPHY Camera Scenes are camera-based compositions, not games.
For a more substantial creation pipeline, Remix is an alternative positioned around AI-assisted game creation and broader publishing. It is not a like-for-like substitute for Arcade’s GIPHY-media remixing and instant browser-link format; the reviewed page did not establish a subscription price.
