Gladius, Beast of Night is the boss tied to the Tricephalos expedition in ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN; Everdark Sovereign names its enhanced encounter. Holy damage is the specialist guide’s key recommendation: enough of it can stagger Gladius and briefly lower its attack and defense. The main tactical difference is that the Everdark fight begins with Gladius split into three wolves, while the regular encounter reaches its split later.
What are Gladius, Tricephalos, and Everdark Sovereign?
These names refer to related parts of the same encounter, not three separate bosses. Gladius, Beast of Night is the boss; Tricephalos is the expedition or target name; and Everdark Sovereign identifies the enhanced version. Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe’s 24 September 2025 version 1.02.3 patch notes explicitly connect them, referring to the “Everdark Sovereign Tricephalos fight” and a bug affecting some attacks from Gladius.
The detailed tactics below come from Mobalytics’ guide, updated 21 August 2025, rather than a full official strategy document. Its health thresholds and move descriptions are guide-reported observations, not guaranteed current specifications; game updates may change encounter behavior. Eldenpedia’s community-wiki entry also describes the enhanced form as Gladius’s upgraded encounter.
What is Gladius’s weakness?
Use Holy damage when you can
Mobalytics identifies Holy as Gladius’s weakness and says dealing enough Holy damage can stagger the boss, temporarily reducing its attack and defense. Treat this as a useful damage priority, not a guarantee of an immediate stagger: the guide does not establish a universal amount of Holy damage required.

Keep moving and avoid over-committing
The guide describes Gladius as a fast, three-headed wolf that attacks with lunges, bites, fire, and a chain sword. Favor mobile attacks and leave yourself room to evade instead of committing to slow attacks while it is in range. The guide lists Fire as a resistance, so it is a less attractive damage type than Holy when choosing between them.
Regular Gladius vs. Everdark Sovereign Tricephalos
Mobalytics distinguishes the two forms by when Gladius splits and how the multi-wolf phases unfold. The percentages are approximate observations in that August 2025 guide, not official thresholds.

The community-wiki account likewise describes an opening split, a merged Everdark phase, and another split later. Specific attacks and thresholds here should be read as guide context; neither the wiki nor the publisher patch note establishes a complete current move list.
How to handle the marked-player mechanic
For the regular fight’s split phase, Mobalytics says the wolves focus a marked player. If you are marked, make evasion your priority and avoid drawing their attacks through teammates. If someone else is marked, use the breathing room to attack, while staying ready for a lunge or other incoming attack. This division of attention is more useful than having all three players chase damage at once.

What changed in the official patch notes?
Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe’s version 1.02.3 notes dated 24 September 2025 say: “Fixed a bug where some attacks from "Gladius, Beast of Night" would not hit the player character under specific conditions during the Everdark Sovereign Tricephalos fight.” The notes list PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam as targeted platforms. This is a specific fix, not an official strategy guide or a confirmation that every Gladius attack behaves identically across later updates.

Mobalytics reproduces the encounter description: “A many-legged beast appearing from shadow, carrying on its back a chain-link sword used to hunt its prey. Between the fangs of its many heads flicker overwhelming flames. When assailed by multiple shadows, only sacred light can hinder the hunt.” It is encounter copy, not a quotation attributed to a named speaker.
