You can also turn on captions for non-speech sounds, add speaker names or audio direction indicators, and adjust backgrounds, colors, icons, and high-contrast display options.
How to make subtitles bigger in God of War Ragnarök
Open the game’s Settings and go to Accessibility. In the subtitle and caption options, turn Subtitles on if needed, then set Subtitle and Caption Size to Large or X-Large. The available sizes are Default, Large, and X-Large. The official PlayStation accessibility guide does not publish a minimum font measurement or a guaranteed viewing distance.
If changing text size did not make dialogue larger, that is expected: UI Text Size controls general interface text, not subtitle and caption text. Its choices are Default, Large, X-Large, and XX-Large. Adjust the control for the text you need to read.
Subtitles and captions: what each setting does
- Subtitles show spoken dialogue. Set them to On or Off.
- Captions show non-speech audio and descriptions. Set them to On or Off.
Subtitle and caption size is controlled together, and the same readability options apply to both. For example, you can enlarge the text and add a background to make it easier to distinguish from the scene.

Improve subtitle and caption contrast
Set Subtitle and Caption Background to Light or Dark, or choose None. Light uses a low-opacity dark backing; Dark uses a high-opacity dark backing. You can also enable background blur. These options change the area behind the text rather than its size.
Add names, direction, and color
Turn on Speaker Names to identify who is speaking, or Direction Indicators to show the screen-relative direction of audio. Subtitle, speaker, and caption colors can be configured independently: each can be Off/White or Cyan, Green, Yellow, Pink, Orange, Purple, or Blue.

Make the HUD and other visual information easier to see
Enlarge icons and correct UI colors
Use Icon Size to choose Small, Default, Large, or X-Large. UI Color Correction provides additional color adjustment options. These controls address interface symbols and colors, rather than spoken dialogue text.
Try High Contrast HUD and High Contrast Display
High Contrast HUD and High Contrast Display offer alternatives for distinguishing visual information. High Contrast Display includes General, Red-Green, Green-Red, Blue-Yellow, Collector, Danger, and Lighting presets. You can also assign colors to ten categories, including characters, enemies, targets, interactables, hazards, traversal markings, and background.

High Contrast Display can be paired with a swipe toggle during gameplay, and it automatically turns off in character menus. Color filters—Red-Green, Green-Red, and Blue-Yellow—apply a full-screen color shift. Try these options individually to see which, if any, makes important elements clearer; they are not guaranteed accommodations or medical remedies.
Use an accessibility preset, then adjust individual settings
The game offers vision and hearing presets as starting points. Their menus provide Off, Some, and Full levels, and settings changed from a preset are marked blue. A preset does not determine what you need or guarantee the best configuration: use it to reach relevant options, then tune the individual controls that help you.

- For spoken dialogue or non-speech sounds, start with hearing-related options such as subtitles, captions, size, background, speaker names, and direction indicators.
- For menus, icons, or gameplay elements that are hard to distinguish, explore vision-related options such as UI text size, icon size, high contrast, and color controls.
Screen reader and subtitle coverage limits
PlayStation’s game listing says the screen reader can help with starting the game and adjusting settings, but may not communicate additional gameplay text and visual information. It also says subtitles cover the main story and main characters only, so subtitles should not be assumed to represent every spoken line or all in-game information.
Santa Monica Studio’s 2022 accessibility-feature announcement described a re-engineered text-size system, including a larger minimum text size and XX-Large UI scaling. The current settings reference lists the available size choices but does not give a measured font size.
