It is not a full Google Play Store for Windows, and it does not let you install every Android game, ordinary Android apps, or arbitrary APK files.
What Google actually brought to Windows
The Windows product is called Google Play Games on PC. It is a standalone client for supported games, with PC controls and, for compatible titles, progress that can carry between devices. The Android Google Play Store is a broader storefront for apps, games, books, subscriptions, and other digital content; that full storefront is not available as a general-purpose Windows app.
Google announced Google Play Games for PC in December 2021 and began its beta rollout in South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong in January 2022. Google described it as a Windows application for playing supported Google Play games across devices in March 2022. The beta expanded to the United States and several other markets in November 2022. That history matters because “Play Store games on Windows” can sound like a new or universal launch. The accurate description is a game-focused PC platform that has been rolling out for years, with availability and individual titles dependent on region, account eligibility, developer participation, and compatibility.

Check whether your game is available and suited to your PC
Start with Google’s official game catalog. Its listings include games such as Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, Genshin Impact, Roblox, Arknights, Geometry Dash Lite, and Township, but the catalog changes and differs by region. A game appearing in the mobile Play Store does not mean it is available in the PC client.
- Search for the title in Google’s PC game catalog while signed in from your region.
- Open the game’s listing and check its compatibility label and requirements.
- Confirm the game is installable for your account and PC before relying on it for cross-device play.
Google uses compatibility labels to distinguish PC suitability. Optimized means the developer has optimized the game for Windows PC play. Playable means Google’s testing found it stable, meeting its criteria of at least 30 frames per second and supporting mouse and/or keyboard input. Labels are not a promise for every computer or every future game version: Google says testing is not continuous, so updates and hardware differences can affect the experience. Minimum PC requirements
Google’s current published requirements for the client are a baseline, not a performance guarantee for every game. More demanding titles may need better hardware, and each game’s own compatibility information matters.

These specifications apply to Google Play Games on PC, not as a guarantee for a particular game. Integrated graphics may be adequate for some titles but struggle with others. For the latest requirements and supported-country information, use Google’s PC eligibility and requirements page.

- On a Windows PC, open play.google.com/googleplaygames and select Download.
- Open the downloaded installer and follow the setup prompts.
- Sign in with a personal Google Account when prompted.
- Find a supported game in the client, open its page, and select Install.
Google’s full setup instructions are at Install and set up Google Play Games on your PC. The client is a free download; individual games can be free-to-play, paid, ad-supported, or include in-app purchases.
If setup asks for virtualization
Some installations require Windows Hypervisor Platform, and the PC’s processor virtualization may also need to be enabled in BIOS or UEFI. The exact firmware menu varies by manufacturer.

- In Windows, check whether Windows Hypervisor Platform is enabled in Windows Features; enable it if Google’s installer requests it.
- Restart Windows after changing that feature.
- If the installer still reports that virtualization is unavailable, enter BIOS/UEFI and look for a CPU virtualization option, commonly identified as Intel VT-x or AMD-V/SVM.
- Enable the setting if it is disabled, save the change, restart the PC, and try the client again.
Google warns that enabling Windows Hypervisor Platform can affect other Android emulators, which may stop working or behave differently. If you rely on another emulator, you may need to choose which configuration best supports your software. Google setup and virtualization guidance
What the PC client offers—and what varies by game
- Keyboard and mouse: Supported games can use PC input. Customizable key mapping is available in select compatible games, not universally.
- Larger-screen play: A monitor or laptop display can be more comfortable than a phone, and graphics or performance may improve depending on the game and hardware.
- Progress across devices: Google promotes synchronized progress for compatible games. You may need the same Google account or the game publisher’s own login, and cloud saves, purchases, and achievements can work differently by title.
- Google Play Points: Google says eligible purchases made through the PC experience can qualify. Check the game and account terms for eligibility.
- More than one game window: Google’s help documentation says a signed-in account can open a different game in a new window. This is not unrestricted multi-instance Android emulation.
For cross-device play, confirm the game supports the same account or save system on mobile and PC. A separate publisher account, incompatible game versions, or an unfinished account-linking step can prevent progress from appearing. Limitations to know before installing
- It is for games, not general Android apps. The client is not a Windows Play Store for installing arbitrary Android apps.
- You cannot assume every game is included. The developer, region, account, and PC compatibility all affect whether a title appears and can be installed.
- It is not an APK sideloading tool. Installing arbitrary APK files is not the product’s core workflow.
- Compatibility is title-specific. A game can install yet perform poorly, and a compatibility label is not a guarantee for every hardware configuration or later game update.
- It is a Windows service. Google’s client requirements are for Windows PCs, not macOS.
- Play Pass is separate. Google Play Pass advertises access to more than 1,000 games and apps, with ads removed and in-app purchases unlocked for included titles. It is a separate subscription, and catalog, benefits, and offers vary by country and account. See Google Play Pass.
Google Play Games on PC versus an Android emulator
Google’s client favors a curated catalog and a direct Google-supported setup. Emulators can offer broader app access and more controls, but usually require more configuration and may encounter game-specific compatibility or publisher restrictions.

Examples of third-party emulators include BlueStacks, LDPlayer, and MuMu Player. Their features and compatibility vary; check a vendor’s current information and the game publisher’s rules before choosing one.

Look for the publisher’s native Windows version
Some games also have official Windows editions. Where one exists, compare the publisher’s PC version with the Android version: a native edition may offer different graphics settings, controls, account linking, or support. Verify the current version and cross-progression details on the publisher’s official site rather than assuming they match.
Do not rely on Windows Subsystem for Android as a new setup option
Microsoft says Windows Subsystem for Android and the Amazon Appstore stopped being available in the Microsoft Store on March 5, 2025. That makes it a poor choice for a new mainstream Android-game setup. Microsoft’s support notice

Fix common problems
The game does not appear in search
Check the PC catalog and your region. The title may not be supported, may not be offered in your country, may have been removed or temporarily disabled, or may not be available for your account or device. Its presence in the Android Play Store alone is not proof it is available on PC.
The installer will not continue
Check that Windows meets the published version requirement, that the installation drive is an SSD with at least 10 GB free, and that the PC meets the memory, processor, graphics, and administrator-account requirements. Google says installation stops if the PC does not meet minimum requirements. Review the current installation help and eligibility requirements.
The game installs but runs poorly
- Check the game’s compatibility label rather than relying only on the client’s minimum specifications.
- Update Windows and graphics drivers, close unnecessary background applications, and lower the game’s graphics settings if available.
- Confirm the game is installed on the SSD and check whether Windows is using integrated graphics instead of a dedicated GPU.
Mobile progress is missing on PC
Verify that both versions use the same Google account or the game’s required publisher account. Check whether the title supports cloud saves or cross-platform progression, whether the versions are compatible, and whether you completed any account-linking process in the game.
