Gore Magala is the blind, six-limbed flagship monster of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. It scatters black-and-purple scales that form a mist, letting it sense prey and spreading the Frenzy Virus—a game mechanic that affects hunters and monsters.
What is Gore Magala?
Gore Magala is a monster in Capcom’s Monster Hunter series, first introduced as the flagship threat of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. Capcom describes it as a blind, six-limbed wyvern associated with a distinctive black-and-purple mist of scattered scales. The creature and its effects belong to the series’ fictional world.
In Capcom’s 2014 feature, writer Yuri Araujo explains: “You see, the Gore Magala is actually blind.” Rather than relying on sight, Gore Magala scatters pollen-like scales through its surroundings to heighten its senses and detect prey. The scales create the mist associated with the Frenzy Virus.
What is the Frenzy Virus?
In the games, the Frenzy Virus is an effect associated with Gore Magala’s scales that can affect both hunters and other monsters. Its exact gameplay consequences depend on the entry; the mechanics described for Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate should not be treated as universal series rules.

How it works in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
Capcom’s 2014 explanation describes an infection gauge. While infected, attacking can overcome the virus and award a temporary affinity boost. If the gauge fills instead, health recovery is temporarily reduced. These are Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate mechanics, not a guarantee of how the Frenzy effect works in other games.
Which games feature Gore Magala?
Capcom identified Gore Magala as the flagship monster of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and announced its return in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. In its 2022 Sunbreak recap, Capcom called it a “sinister six-limbed blind wyvern” and noted that it brings its signature Frenzy Virus to battle. Those appearances establish the monster’s role in those games; they do not establish that every entry uses the same story or combat mechanics.
