“This application failed to start because gpukazsoft.dll was not found.”

gpukazsoft.dll is a legacy 32-bit PlayStation-emulator graphics plugin, not a Windows component or modern graphics-card driver. It is associated with gpuKazSoft, also described as Kazzuya’s Software Driver, and was used by PSEmu Pro-style emulators including ePSXe and PCSX.

The safest repair is to restore the complete emulator or plugin package into the emulator’s own plugins or Plugin folder. Do not copy this DLL into System32, SysWOW64, or another Windows folder.

Which fix applies to you

  • The emulator recently lost the file: reinstall or restore its complete plugin package.
  • Windows Security removed it: check Protection history before reinstalling.
  • The file exists but will not load: check that the emulator and plugin are both 32-bit, then look for a missing dependency.
  • The error mentions MSVCP, VCRUNTIME, d3dx9, xinput, or xaudio: install the matching Microsoft runtime, not gpukazsoft.dll.
  • The emulator stopped working after a Windows change: use the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter.
  • You downloaded the DLL separately: remove it unless you can verify its origin, then reinstall the original emulator or choose another renderer.
  • You expected a graphics-driver repair to help: it probably will not. This is an emulator GPU plugin, not an NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, or Windows display-driver file.

What gpukazsoft.dll actually is

The GPU name is easy to misread. In this case, it refers to the emulator’s PlayStation graphics subsystem. The DLL is loaded by the emulator through its plugin interface; it is not the driver for the physical GPU installed in your computer.

  • MICROSOFT WINDOWS 11 PRO (INGLES) FPP 64-BIT ENG INTL USB FLASH DRIVE

PSEmu Pro-style emulators separate functions into plugins for graphics, sound, CD-ROM and controller input. gpuKazSoft is the graphics plugin in that model. Historical emulator archives identify compatible software including PSEmu Pro, ePSXe and PCSX. The PSEmu plugin index and historical emulator archive provide useful context for these old plugin layouts.

Available archive metadata identifies the file as a Win32, 32-bit DLL. No independently verified 64-bit build has been established. Some old listings describe it as “GPU.DLL (CPU and DirectDraw driver)” and attribute it to DP Software, but emulator references more strongly connect it with Kazzuya’s software-rendering GPU plugin.

Fix 1: Restore the emulator and its plugin

This is the most likely solution when the emulator configuration still points to gpukazsoft.dll.

  1. Close the emulator completely.
  2. Right-click the emulator shortcut and select Open file location.
  3. Look for a folder named plugins, Plugin, or a similarly named emulator plugin directory.
  4. Check whether gpukazsoft.dll is present.
  5. If it is missing, restore it from the original emulator or plugin archive.
  6. If you no longer have the original package, uninstall and reinstall the complete emulator from a source you trust.
  7. Open the emulator’s graphics or video configuration.
  8. Select the restored GPU plugin, if it appears in the list.
  9. Save the configuration and start a game.

A typical layout may look like this:

ePSXe
    ePSXe.exe
    plugins
        gpukazsoft.dll

The exact folder name varies between emulators. The important point is that the DLL belongs beside the emulator’s other plugins, not in a Windows system directory. Windows normally searches the application directory and relevant application paths before system locations when loading a DLL. Microsoft documents this behavior in its guide to DLL search order.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How to tell whether this worked

The emulator should open without the missing-file message, and its GPU plugin selector should recognize the plugin. If the error changes to “The specified module could not be found,” the file may now be in the correct location while one of its dependencies is still missing.

If the plugin does not appear at all, confirm that the emulator is looking at the folder you repaired. Some front ends use a configurable plugin path rather than the folder beside the executable.

Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine

Antivirus software may have removed or quarantined an old emulator DLL, particularly if the file came from an unmaintained archive.

  1. Open Start and search for Windows Security.
  2. Select Virus & threat protection.
  3. Select Protection history.
  4. Look for an event involving the emulator folder or gpukazsoft.dll.
  5. Expand the event to inspect its path and detection details.
  6. If the file came from a trusted, original emulator package, follow the available restore or allow options.
  7. Reinstall the complete emulator package if the file cannot be restored.
  8. Run a scan on the package before starting the emulator.

Only restore a quarantined file when you can verify its provenance. Microsoft warns that restoring a quarantined item can make it active again. Its Protection History guidance explains the available actions.

  • OEM DOES NOT PROVIDE PRODUCT SUPPORT | To acquire product with Microsoft support, obtain the full packaged “Retail” version.

If the original package cannot be verified, do not force the DLL back into service. Remove the obsolete plugin and configure another GPU plugin instead.

Fix 3: Check the 32-bit and 64-bit match

A 32-bit emulator normally needs a 32-bit GPU plugin. Installing 64-bit Windows does not make a 32-bit plugin compatible with a 64-bit host.

Check the emulator executable:

  1. Open the emulator’s installation folder.
  2. Right-click its main .exe file.
  3. Select Properties.
  4. Open the Details tab and review any available product information.
  5. If the emulator is an old PSEmu Pro, ePSXe or PCSX build, treat it as a 32-bit application unless its documentation clearly says otherwise.
  6. Use a plugin built for that same emulator architecture.

Do not copy the DLL into both C:WindowsSystem32 and C:WindowsSysWOW64. On 64-bit Windows, these directories have different architectural purposes, and SysWOW64 contains 32-bit system files. Microsoft explains this behavior in its documentation on the file-system redirector.

A wrong-architecture error may appear as “not designed to run on Windows,” “contains an error,” or a similar load failure. Those messages can also indicate corruption or a damaged dependency, so the message alone does not identify the exact cause.

Fix 4: Repair a missing dependency

Sometimes the emulator names gpukazsoft.dll, but the missing component is a DLL that gpukazsoft.dll needs. This is especially likely when the file exists in the correct plugin folder and the message says “The specified module could not be found.”

Look for the name of the missing dependency in the complete error message or emulator log.

Visual C++ dependency

If the message mentions MSVCP, VCRUNTIME, or another Visual C++ runtime file:

  1. Download the supported Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft.
  2. Choose the x86 package for a 32-bit emulator, even when Windows itself is 64-bit.
  3. Run the installer.
  4. Choose Repair if that option is offered.
  5. Restart the emulator.

Use Microsoft’s supported Visual C++ downloads. Installing Visual C++ will not recreate gpukazsoft.dll; it only addresses a separate runtime dependency.

Legacy DirectX dependency

If the error identifies d3dx9, xinput, xaudio, or another legacy DirectX component:

  1. Download Microsoft’s DirectX End-User Runtime installer.
  2. Run dxwebsetup.exe.
  3. Accept the setup terms.
  4. Allow it to install the optional legacy components.
  5. Restart the emulator.

Microsoft’s DirectX End-User Runtime can install legacy components such as D3DX, XAudio 2.7 and XInput 1.3. It does not contain gpukazsoft.dll.

Do not install a generic “DLL fixer” and do not register each error message as a reason to download an unrelated DLL.

Fix 5: Run the compatibility troubleshooter

Old emulators may depend on behavior that changed between Windows releases.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select System.
  3. Select Troubleshoot.
  4. Select Other troubleshooters.
  5. Find Program Compatibility Troubleshooter.
  6. Select Run.
  7. Choose the emulator from the list, or browse to its executable.
  8. Follow the recommended tests.
  9. Start the emulator again using the compatibility setting that worked.

This can help with an old host application, but it will not replace a missing plugin. If the DLL is absent, return to the complete-package repair above.

Fix 6: Select another GPU plugin

The original software renderer may be obsolete or unavailable. If the emulator starts but cannot use gpukazsoft.dll, open its video or graphics configuration and select another compatible GPU plugin already included with the installation.

  1. Start the emulator.
  2. Open Config, Video, Graphics, or Plugins.
  3. Open the GPU plugin list.
  4. Select another renderer compatible with that emulator.
  5. Apply the setting.
  6. Start a game and test graphics, input and sound.

If no compatible renderer is available, use a maintained emulator that supports your games and operating system. Replacing the entire emulator is safer than forcing an unknown standalone DLL into Windows.

Why System32, SysWOW64 and regsvr32 are wrong

gpukazsoft.dll is not identified as a Windows system DLL. Copying it to System32 or SysWOW64 can create version conflicts and still leave the emulator unable to find its plugin.

regsvr32 is also not the correct repair. Microsoft documents regsvr32 as a tool for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. Emulator GPU plugins are loaded by the emulator’s plugin interface, not registered as Windows COM components. Running a command such as this is therefore not a solution:

regsvr32 gpukazsoft.dll

If you already copied the file into a system folder, remove that copy only if you can identify it as the file you added, then restore the proper copy to the emulator’s plugin directory.

Fix 7: Check Windows components only as a last resort

System File Checker and DISM repair Windows components. They are low-probability fixes for this particular file because gpukazsoft.dll is associated with a third-party emulator, not Windows.

Use them when other Windows components are also failing:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open Start.
  2. Search for Command Prompt.
  3. Select Run as administrator.
  4. Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  1. Wait for DISM to finish.
  2. Run:
sfc /scannow
  1. Restart Windows.
  2. Test the emulator again.

Microsoft provides the commands in its System File Checker guidance. These commands do not download or reconstruct the emulator plugin.

Manually hunting through Windows component repairs and repeating SFC or DISM without knowing what changed can be time-consuming. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system problems and identify repair areas; its full version performs the repair, but reinstalling the specific emulator remains the definitive fix for a missing plugin.

Do not reinstall the graphics-card driver first

Device Manager and a graphics-driver reinstall are appropriate for a genuine display-driver problem, but gpukazsoft.dll is not identified as an NVIDIA, AMD, Intel or Windows display-driver component.

Do not start with:

  • Device Manager → Display adapters → Uninstall device
  • A manufacturer driver cleanup
  • A new graphics-card driver package
  • A random “GPU DLL” download

Those steps will not normally restore an emulator plugin. If the emulator has broader graphics problems after a real driver update, update the graphics driver through the hardware manufacturer’s official support channel, then recheck the emulator’s renderer selection.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you are maintaining several old programs and are unsure which hardware drivers are stale, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify driver versions; the full version performs driver installation. It is not a substitute for restoring gpukazsoft.dll from the original emulator package.

Avoid random DLL download sites

Downloading a standalone copy of gpukazsoft.dll is risky because the file may contain malware, use the wrong architecture, be corrupted, or belong to a different release. Even a genuine copy may not work if the emulator expects another plugin version or a missing dependency.

Best Value

There is no current, verifiable official standalone download or supported publisher package for this specific DLL. Prefer these sources:

  • The original emulator installation media or backup
  • A trusted archive of the complete emulator/plugin package
  • The emulator’s own repair or reinstall process
  • Another compatible GPU plugin included with the emulator
  • A maintained replacement emulator

Never place an unverified DLL in a Windows system folder to silence an error.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Prevention after the repair

  • Keep the emulator and its plugins folder together when moving or backing up the installation.
  • Export or record the emulator’s graphics configuration.
  • Scan old emulator archives before extracting them.
  • Check Windows Security quarantine before assuming a file was deleted.
  • Avoid cleanup utilities that remove files from legacy application folders.
  • Keep a backup of the complete emulator directory, not just the executable.
  • If the old plugin remains unreliable, switch to another renderer rather than repeatedly replacing the DLL.

FAQ

Is gpukazsoft.dll part of Windows?

No. It is associated with a legacy PlayStation-emulator GPU plugin and is not a normal Windows component.

Which program installed gpukazsoft.dll?

The likely source is a PSEmu Pro-style PlayStation emulator or compatible front end, including older ePSXe and PCSX installations. Check the folder named in the error, the emulator shortcut, and installed applications.

Should I put gpukazsoft.dll in System32?

No. Put it in the emulator’s configured plugins or Plugin folder.

Should I run regsvr32?

No. This is an emulator plugin, not a DLL that normally needs Windows COM registration.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Will DirectX or Visual C++ restore the file?

No. Those packages can repair a dependency only when the error names a legacy DirectX or Visual C++ component. They do not contain gpukazsoft.dll.

Is there a 64-bit version?

The strongest available identification describes the file as a 32-bit Win32 DLL. No independently verified 64-bit build has been established.

What if the original plugin cannot be found?

Select another compatible GPU renderer or move to a maintained emulator. That is safer than installing an isolated DLL from an unknown source.
