Griswold’s Opus is a Paladin main-hand Unique in Diablo IV. Its effect builds Critical Strike Damage when your direct damage hits enemies, then adds a chance for critical strikes to deal double damage, heal you, and refresh the bonus once it reaches its maximum. Current Season 15 values are from D4Guides.gg’s database updated October 7, 2026 for Patch 3.2.1; acquisition accounts differ, so there is no single confirmed farm route in the sources available.
What is Griswold’s Opus?
Blizzard’s Patch 3.1 notes list Griswold’s Opus as a Paladin Unique and specify Weapon Damage and Lucky Hit Chance as its guaranteed affixes (Blizzard Patch 3.1 notes). The Season 15 item database classifies it as a Paladin main-hand Unique. That makes it a weapon, not a generic account-wide bonus or an item for another class.

What does Griswold’s Opus do?
According to D4Guides.gg’s Season 15 entry, updated October 7, 2026 for Patch 3.2.1, direct damage grants 0.80–1.00%[x] Critical Strike Damage for each enemy hit within 10 seconds, up to 40–50%[x]. The damage bonus is multiplicative, as indicated by the game’s [x] notation. The database reports a range for the item’s rolls, rather than one fixed value.
At the maximum bonus, Lucky Hit: Critical Strikes have up to a 50% chance to deal double damage, heal for 130–150 Life, and refresh the bonus. The listed 50% chance is a maximum, not a guarantee on every critical strike; the healing also varies within the database’s stated range.

How to get Griswold’s Opus
Published acquisition guidance conflicts, so the sources do not establish a definitive current loot table:
- D4Guides.gg’s Season 15 database, updated October 7, 2026 for Patch 3.2.1, names Astaroth as the drop source.
- Game8’s guide, updated February 4, 2026, lists Echo of Duriel, Echo of Andariel, and Harbinger of Hatred as targeted boss sources; it also mentions general enemy and chest drops, including Helltide chests (Game8’s Griswold’s Opus guide).
Because those accounts disagree and Game8’s guidance predates the current Season 15 entry, treat its list as dated advice rather than a confirmed current route. Check the latest in-game or item-database information for the active patch before committing materials or time to a specific boss farm.

Why older Griswold’s Opus stats may differ
Do not assume a value quoted in an older guide is still current. Blizzard’s March 11, 2026 Patch 2.6 notes recorded a fix for incorrect Griswold’s Opus affix rolls (Blizzard Patch 2.6 notes). The currently cited effect values are the Season 15 database values updated October 7, 2026 for Patch 3.2.1; they should be read in that version context, not treated as permanent stats.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Griswold’s Opus best for a Paladin build?
The available item data establishes what the weapon does, but does not establish a best-in-slot verdict or compare it with alternatives for a particular Paladin setup. Its effect is designed around landing direct damage on multiple enemies and reaching the maximum bonus, but whether that suits a build depends on its skills, encounter, and available weapon options. A firm build recommendation requires current build-specific comparisons.
