When did GTA 5 come out?
Take-Two Interactive announced that Grand Theft Auto V became available worldwide on September 17, 2013, for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The announcement also noted a digital download through PlayStation Network.

That makes September 17, 2023, the game’s 10th anniversary by calendar date. GTA Online was a later component: Take-Two’s announcement said it was scheduled to launch on October 1, 2013, rather than on the game’s release day.
How GTA V reached later platforms
The original 2013 release was followed by editions for newer platforms. Rockstar announced November 18, 2014, release dates for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, followed by a January 27, 2015, PC release date.

The dates for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC editions are the dates Rockstar announced for those releases. The PS5 date is the one listed on PlayStation’s official GTA V page.
What the anniversary sales figures mean
In 2013, Take-Two reported that GTA V generated more than $1 billion in worldwide retail sales during its first three days, according to the company’s estimate. This was a company-reported retail-sales figure, not an independently audited measure of copies bought by players.

In 2023, Take-Two said the game had sold in approximately 190 million units. “Sold in” is the company’s wording; it should not be read as a precise count of consumer purchases or as a figure for the anniversary period alone.
