As of October 7, 2026, PlayStation has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI on PS5 uses Tempest 3D AudioTech for audio positioning in Leonida’s soundscapes. The official information reviewed does not confirm the game’s final audio menu, a headphone or surround toggle, or a dialogue-volume slider. PS5 does offer separate system-level headphone tools you can try, but they are not GTA 6 settings.
Does GTA 6 support 3D audio on PS5?
PlayStation’s June 24, 2026 article says GTA VI uses Tempest 3D AudioTech on PS5 for audio positioning across Leonida’s soundscapes. PlayStation describes the positioning as highly accurate. This confirms a platform-specific spatial-audio feature, not every detail of how it will behave with different headphones or speaker setups.
That announcement does not establish an in-game “surround sound” switch, supported speaker layouts, a headphone mode, or a recommended headset. Those are distinct questions from whether PS5’s Tempest technology is part of the experience.
Which GTA 6 audio settings are confirmed?
The official materials reviewed by October 7, 2026 do not list GTA VI’s final in-game audio or accessibility controls. In particular, they do not confirm separate sliders for dialogue, music, effects, or dynamic range, nor do they identify game-specific audio mix presets. The US PlayStation Store listing identifies the PS5 title, but it is not a detailed audio-settings guide.

Once the game is available, check its audio and accessibility menus for controls that may not have been documented in advance. Until then, treat claims about particular sliders or a universal “best” mix as unverified.
How to make GTA 6 dialogue louder on PS5 headphones
If voices are hard to hear through headphones, PS5’s system-level Audio Focus includes a Boost Voices preset. Sony says this preset amplifies character voices and other middle-frequency sounds. It is a console feature, not a confirmed GTA VI dialogue control, and the result can vary by content and listening setup.

- Connect headphones by USB or analog. Sony says Audio Focus does not support audio from a TV, AV receiver, or soundbar connected over HDMI.
- On PS5, open Settings > Sound > Volume > Audio Focus.
- Try Boost Voices, then compare it with Audio Focus off or another preset at a comfortable listening volume.
Audio Focus and the game’s eventual mix are separate: the system feature changes the headphone listening experience, while any in-game dialogue or effects controls would need to be confirmed in GTA VI itself. See Sony’s Audio Focus overview for the feature and its connection limits.
PS5 headphone volume and EQ controls
PS5 also provides headphone volume and EQ controls. Sony documents the EQ modes Standard, Bass Boost, Shooter, and customizable modes for supported PlayStation headsets. These are console settings; the names do not mean that any mode is tuned specifically for GTA VI.

Start at a comfortable volume. If you have a supported PlayStation headset, compare its EQ options with Standard using your own listening preferences. Sony describes Shooter as emphasizing shooting and footsteps, so it should not be treated as a dialogue-clarity preset. No new headset is established as necessary for the announced PS5 audio experience. Check the headset maker’s compatibility information before relying on a specific feature.

When to use Mono Audio for Headphones
If stereo separation makes sounds in one ear difficult to hear, PS5’s Mono Audio for Headphones sends the same audio to both sides. Find it at Settings > Sound > Audio Output > Headphones. Because mono removes left-right separation, it is an accessibility option rather than a surround-sound recommendation. Sony explains this and other options in its PS5 accessibility settings guide.
Xbox, captions and accessibility: what is not confirmed
The official sources reviewed do not establish comparable GTA VI audio settings for Xbox or PC. Microsoft’s Xbox Accessibility Guideline 105 recommends separate controls for categories such as music, voice-over, effects, ambient sound, narration, and chat, along with spatial-audio options. Guideline 104 discusses subtitles for speech and captions for other meaningful sounds. These are recommendations for game design, not evidence that GTA VI implements those controls.
On PS5, the PlayStation Store game hub can show accessibility-feature information when it is available; the tags and features depend on the title. Check the game’s listing and menus after launch rather than assuming that a platform feature or guideline guarantees a particular GTA VI option.
