Microsoft has confirmed that its next-generation Xbox, Project Helix, is in development, but has not said GTA VI will run on it. The official sources cited here also do not confirm a PS6 release, specifications, or GTA VI support. So if you’re choosing a console for launch, base the decision on a supported system available now—not on an unconfirmed next-generation compatibility claim.
What platforms are confirmed for GTA VI?
Take-Two and Rockstar announced Grand Theft Auto VI for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a launch date of November 19, 2026. Rockstar’s official game page and its platform and editions support page are the places to check for current availability and product details.

Take-Two’s June 24, 2026 announcement listed the Standard Edition at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99, and said the game would be sold through global retailers and storefronts. Those are announced prices, not a guarantee of the amount a buyer will pay in every region; local pricing and availability may differ or change. Read the announcement.
What did Microsoft actually say about Project Helix?
Microsoft announced Project Helix as a next-generation first-party Xbox console in development. Its March 11, 2026 GDC announcement says the system is designed to play Xbox console and PC games and will use a custom AMD SoC. It does not provide a consumer release date or price, and it does not name GTA VI as a supported game. Microsoft’s announcement is the confirmed basis for discussing Helix.

Are PS6 or GTA VI compatibility leaks confirmed?
No. The official material cited here does not establish PS6 specifications or launch timing, or GTA VI compatibility with either PS6 or Project Helix. A TechRadar search result described an alleged chip-finalization leak, but that report could not be fully inspected; technical details and performance comparisons from that claim should not be presented as fact. The figures sometimes repeated in leak discussions, including 40- or 56-teraflop comparisons, are not confirmed specifications.
Likewise, Shawn Layden’s reported comment about whether consumers would pay $1,000 for marginal next-generation upgrades was an opinion about a hypothetical price, not a PS6 or Helix price announcement. GamesRadar’s report attributes the view to the former PlayStation executive; it does not establish either console’s price.

Should you buy a console now or wait?
The practical choice depends on whether you already own a supported console and how much you value playing at launch. There is no confirmed next-generation GTA VI compatibility to weigh against current support.
- Already own a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S: Those are the platforms currently announced for the game. You do not need to buy another console based on speculation about Helix or PS6.
- Want to play at launch but own neither: Make the decision among supported PS5 and Xbox Series X|S options, taking your preferred platform ecosystem, current price, and local availability into account. The cited evidence does not establish that one will run GTA VI better than the other.
- Can wait and want next-generation hardware: Waiting avoids buying a system before official details are available, but no PS6 or Helix consumer release date or GTA VI support is established in the cited announcements.
A Reddit thread titled “Who is still waiting to buy a console for gta6 ?” illustrates concerns about buying now, waiting, and price, but it is a discussion—not a representative poll of GTA fans. Read the thread.

Does the boxed GTA VI edition include a disc?
No. Rockstar Support says the physical version comes in a box with a download code rather than a disc. The support page, last updated August 18, 2026, also describes region restrictions for codes. Check that the code’s region matches your account before buying. Rockstar’s edition and platform details.

They should not be treated as a verdict on total demand. A June 2026 comparison circulated as an 8-to-1 PlayStation-to-Xbox ratio based on IGN affiliate data. Windows Central cautioned that affiliate clicks reflect that publication’s audience and shopping behavior, not total sales or the wider market. Read the explanation. It is not a global preorder statistic and does not show which console is the better choice for an individual player.
