GTA V’s open world is a documented mix of city, countryside, recreation and vehicle activities; GTA VI’s confirmed setting is modern Vice City and the wider state of Leonida. Rockstar has not established that GTA VI’s map will be larger or more interactive, or detailed its full activity list. Players can compare what is known now—and save those judgments for the finished game.

The comparison is therefore uneven by design: GTA V has an established record of features, while Rockstar’s public GTA VI description confirms its setting and central characters but leaves many open-world specifics unanswered.
What can you do in GTA 5’s open world?
Rockstar’s May 2013 preview described Los Santos as a metropolis surrounded by Blaine County countryside, with environments ranging from mountains and streets to the ocean floor. It said the world was open from the beginning and outlined varied diversions and ways to move through it. These are historical official descriptions of GTA V’s design, not a guarantee that every feature appears identically in every later edition.
- Outdoor and skill activities: play golf or tennis, do yoga, cycle, parachute, attempt stunt jumps and take on flying challenges.
- Driving and exploration: race, customize vehicles and pick up hitchhikers while travelling through the world.
- Story missions: follow three protagonists with distinct lives and skillsets through an interwoven story involving dangerous heists.
- Shared online play: GTA Online is a separate evolving experience, with missions, jobs, races and free-roam activities described by Rockstar.
That range gives players a useful baseline for judging a follow-up: not only how much land it contains, but what the world lets them do and how its activities fit together.

What should players expect from GTA 6?
Rockstar’s published premise places Jason and Lucia in modern Vice City, within the state of Leonida, where they become caught in a criminal conspiracy. The game page and its linked trailers establish the setting and characters, but do not provide a confirmed final map scale or a complete list of activities. Those gaps matter: promotional material can suggest a tone or location without proving how a feature works in play.
Rockstar lists November 19, 2026 as the release date and PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as platforms in its release and platform announcement. Its June 2026 preorder announcement describes the launch game as a single-player experience. That does not rule out a separately announced online offering at a later date.

For buyers, Rockstar says the physical package contains a download code rather than a disc. In other words, “physical” describes the box, not a disc-based copy of the game; the package requires downloading the game. Retailer stock, prices and terms are not established here.

That cannot be answered responsibly from the official material cited here. Rockstar has identified Leonida and Vice City but has not established a comparable final map size. Claims that GTA VI will be bigger, denser, or more explorable—or that it will have more enterable buildings—remain unconfirmed by these sources.

Map size alone would not settle which world feels richer. Once the game is available, useful comparisons will include:
- Geography: how urban areas, countryside and coast differ, and how freely players can travel between them.
- Activity variety: what diversions and missions exist beyond the main story, and how they connect to the setting.
- World reactivity: how locations and characters respond to the player’s actions.
- Play modes: how the single-player game is structured and whether Rockstar announces a separate online experience.
Until Rockstar documents more or players can assess the released game, these are questions to evaluate—not confirmed advantages over GTA V.
