Game writer Alexa D’Agostino says Lucia Caminos was written as a person with her own wants and contradictions—not as an idealized character. In a LOVE Magazine interview, she calls the result “perfectly imperfect,” describing her approach to making the Grand Theft Auto VI protagonist feel real. It is her creative perspective, not a verdict on how players will respond to Lucia or how the finished game will play.
What does “perfectly imperfect” mean?
The phrase comes from D’Agostino, identified in the interview as a game writer. The interviewer asks about writing a female lead who is “neither a victim nor a male fantasy, but a fully realised person with her own wants.” D’Agostino’s answer is that focusing on a character’s own desires can make her feel imperfect and believable, including through clichés rather than by making her flawless.
“When you are focusing on writing a fully realised person with their own wants, you’re going to get something perfectly imperfect—with clichés, but also undeniably real.”
That is D’Agostino’s account of the writing goal; it does not establish how the game presents every aspect of Lucia or whether audiences will find her convincing.

Who did D’Agostino draw on when writing Lucia?
D’Agostino says she thought about women she knows and her mother, an immigrant who grew up in Newark, New Jersey. She describes her mother as “rowdy, kind, but not to take any shit,” and says she related to Lucia. The interview presents these as personal reference points, not as evidence that Lucia is a direct portrait of her mother.
How the writers describe Lucia and Jason as a team
The interview frames Lucia and Jason Duval as lovers on the run across Leonida, Rockstar’s fictional take on modern Florida. Senior vice president of narrative Rupert Humphries says the two leads needed to complement and push and pull each other through the story. He describes Lucia as determined to pursue a better life:
Rank #2
“Lucia had to be someone who wanted a better life for herself, and wouldn’t let the obstacles in the way of that life stop her getting it.”
Fellow writer Elizabeth Gauvey-Kern describes the intended qualities of both protagonists:
Rank #3
- Rule the city streets in a thrilling open-world crime adventure.
- Drive luxury cars, bikes, and police vehicles in epic missions.
- Fight gang wars, escape police chases, and dominate turf battles.
- Explore a massive urban map packed with action and secrets.
- Play offline anytime — no internet required for crime fun!
“We wanted both protagonists to be vulnerable, tough, flawed, right sometimes, wrong sometimes, able to learn from each other, and that’s what we felt made them authentic, and a great team.”
These comments describe the writers’ aims for the characters, rather than independently assessing the finished game.
Rank #4
What D’Agostino says about Lucia beside past protagonists
D’Agostino says her approach could create “a woman that can stand tall next to the likes of Arthur Morgan and Niko Bellic.” That comparison is her confidence in Lucia as a character; it should not be read as an objective ranking of Rockstar protagonists.
What is confirmed about GTA 6
Rockstar’s official Grand Theft Auto VI page, accessed October 7, 2026, lists a November 19, 2026 release date for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Its story summary says an easy score goes wrong, drawing Jason and Lucia into a criminal conspiracy across Leonida and forcing them to rely on one another. Those official game details are distinct from the writers’ subjective comments about characterization.
