It is a statement of creative intent—not a verdict from players or critics, who have not yet had the game to judge.
Who said Lucia can stand tall with Arthur and Niko?
D’Agostino, identified as a game writer at Rockstar Games, made the comparison in LOVE Magazine’s interview, “The American Dream.” The October 5, 2026 Insider Gaming headline reported her remarks; the interview text itself contains the underlying statement. Read the LOVE Magazine interview and see Insider Gaming’s report.
Her exact point was: “When you are focusing on writing a fully realised person with their own wants, you’re going to get something perfectly imperfect—with clichés, but also undeniably real. That’s how you get a woman that can stand tall next to the likes of Arthur Morgan and Niko Bellic.”
What is D’Agostino’s reasoning?
D’Agostino said she thought about women she knew while writing Lucia, particularly her mother, an immigrant who grew up in Newark, New Jersey, near Lucia’s fictional Liberty City hometown. She described her mother as “rowdy, kind, but not to take any shit,” and said, “I related a lot to Lucia, and writing her came very naturally to me.”

- This product contains a download code inside the box — no disc is included. Customer shipments will begin arriving November 12 for pre-load; game is playable starting November 19.
- Pre-order to receive the Vintage Vice City Pack.
- Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience.
Her explanation centers on character rather than a checklist of traits: Lucia should have her own wants and feel imperfect, not like an idealised or frictionless hero. D’Agostino sees that sense of a fully realised person as what could make Lucia compelling beside protagonists players already know.

Arthur Morgan and Niko Bellic are the specific characters D’Agostino invoked as a creative benchmark. She is expressing confidence in the writing approach and in Lucia’s potential; she is not reporting a player poll, review consensus or measured ranking. Whether players ultimately consider Lucia their equal is a question the finished game and its audience will answer.
