Gyre Stream Bitrate and Resolution Settings for 1080p YouTube Playback

Gyre’s prerecorded Full HD target and YouTube’s live-ingest bitrate recommendations serve different purposes. Here are the settings and checks to use.

For a prerecorded file uploaded to Gyre, its published Full HD target is 1920×1080, H.264, 30 FPS, 3072–6144 kbps video bitrate, and 128 kbps audio bitrate. Those are Gyre’s source-file preparation values—not YouTube’s live-encoder bitrate recommendations. YouTube recommends 14 Mbps for 1080p30 H.264 ingest and 17 Mbps for 1080p60 H.264 ingest, a separate setting context.

Gyre’s published 1080p file settings

Gyre’s preparation guide covers prerecorded videos that are uploaded to Gyre storage before a stream is created. For Full HD, it lists these target values:

Source-file setting Gyre guide
Resolution 1920×1080 (Full HD)
Video codec H.264
Video bitrate 3072–6144 kbps
Audio bitrate 128 kbps
Frame rate 30 FPS

The same guide lists 1280×720 as an HD alternative. It names Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and Final Cut Pro as possible tools for preparing or converting a file; it does not require a particular editor. See Gyre’s video preparation guide for its published file workflow and values.

Why YouTube gives a different bitrate

Gyre’s figures describe the uploaded prerecorded source file. YouTube’s figures describe the encoder stream being sent to YouTube for live ingest. They should not be combined into one universal 1080p bitrate: the workflow and purpose differ.

Workflow and publisher Codec and frame rate Minimum bitrate Recommended bitrate
Gyre uploaded prerecorded Full HD file H.264, 30 FPS Not stated in Gyre’s guide 3072–6144 kbps video
YouTube live encoder ingest H.264, 1080p at 30 FPS 5 Mbps 14 Mbps
YouTube live encoder ingest H.264, 1080p at 60 FPS 6 Mbps 17 Mbps

YouTube’s live settings depend on codec, resolution, and frame rate. Its table also lists AV1 and H.265 rates, but those are not H.264 values; do not substitute them when configuring an H.264 encoder. YouTube supports RTMP/RTMPS ingest, lists up to 60 FPS, recommends constant bitrate (CBR), and recommends a two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Consult YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrate table for the codec-specific details.

Choose 30 or 60 FPS based on the workflow

For Gyre’s published Full HD file target

Use 30 FPS if following Gyre’s stated Full HD preparation target. The cited guide does not document a 60 FPS Full HD file target, so do not infer one from YouTube’s separate 1080p60 ingest recommendation.

For a direct YouTube live encoder

If you are configuring an encoder to send a 1080p live feed directly to YouTube, match the frame rate to the actual source and use YouTube’s corresponding H.264 recommendation: 14 Mbps at 30 FPS or 17 Mbps at 60 FPS. A higher frame rate is useful only when the source and workflow support it; it also requires sufficient sustained upload capacity.

Prepare and check a Gyre file before launch

  1. Set the export target. In your video editor or converter, choose 1920×1080, H.264, 30 FPS, video bitrate within Gyre’s 3072–6144 kbps range, and audio at 128 kbps.
  2. Upload the file to Gyre storage. Gyre says all source videos must be uploaded to its storage to create a stream, including videos that previously appeared on your YouTube channel or came from a playlist. Keep a local copy available for upload.
  3. Check the file before starting. Gyre’s current product guidance says it checks file parameters before launch and offers an optimization path for files that do not meet requirements. The exact controls may vary in the current interface; confirm them there rather than relying on a presumed menu path. More context is in Gyre’s update on live-stream automation.
  4. Test the live setup. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the planned stream, checking available upload speed, then monitoring stream health and messages while live.

Common settings mistakes and fixes

  • Using 14 Mbps as the Gyre file target: that is YouTube’s recommended H.264 1080p30 live-ingest bitrate, not the video-bitrate range Gyre publishes for the uploaded source. Keep the file export and direct encoder settings separate.
  • Assuming Gyre’s guide supports 1080p60: it lists 30 FPS for the Full HD target. If a 60 FPS direct live encoder is involved, use YouTube’s 1080p60 guidance only for that ingest context.
  • Reading “44.1 kHz” as video frame rate: Gyre’s page contains a label ambiguity after its “FPS 30” entry. Kilohertz is an audio sample-rate unit, not a video frame-rate unit; YouTube identifies 44.1 kHz as a stereo audio sample rate. Use 30 FPS for the Gyre target.
  • Not enough upload capacity for direct ingest: YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate before going live. Reduce competing network use or choose a stream profile the connection can sustain, then verify stream health.
  • Problems after changing a file: recheck the exported resolution, codec, frame rate, and audio/video bitrate against Gyre’s listed targets, upload the corrected file, and use Gyre’s current prelaunch file check.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is a prerecorded YouTube stream that stays live without leaving a computer running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, not a camera feed. Nothing has to stay on at home; uploaded quality is preserved up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, with no quality tiers; and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. Start the free day on StreamNeo.
