Plasma is a resource tied to Ares, the Olympian added in Hades II’s February 2025 Warsong update. In the current documented version, the Ares boon Grisly Gain can make weapon strikes spill Plasma; collecting it restores Magick, with the amount affected by boon rarity and Poms. Other Ares boons also trigger or benefit when you collect Plasma.
How to get Plasma in Hades II
The current official patch notes confirm that Grisly Gain can cause weapon strikes to spill Plasma, but they do not specify its drop rate or establish every way Plasma can appear. Check the boon’s current in-game description for its exact effect in your version.
Older guides describe a different acquisition route: they say Plasma is mined in the Abyss, reached through Chaos Gates, with the Crescent Pickaxe. A May 2024 Gameranx guide also recommends Reagent Sensing to locate nodes and Greater Favour of Gaia for extra strikes per node. That guide was written while Hades II was in Early Access, so treat those location and tool details as historical advice—not confirmed instructions for the current game.
Supergiant’s Post-Launch Patch 2 notes, dated April 14, 2026, do not spell out Plasma’s spawn rules or a current farming route. If you are trying to mine it, verify the location and required tool in the live game rather than relying on the older route.

What Plasma does
Grisly Gain restores Magick
Grisly Gain is an Ares boon. Supergiant says its chance of weapon strikes spilling Plasma was increased, and that boon rarity and Poms now affect how much Magick collecting Plasma restores. The patch notes give no exact drop percentages or Magick values, so use the live boon tooltip for the numbers applicable to your run.
Other Ares boons react to collection
Two other Ares boons have Plasma-related effects in the same patch notes. Profuse Bleeding was reworked to create a falling blade over a surrounding foe whenever you collect Plasma or inflict Wounds. Sanguinary Savor was reworked to increase Wounds damage and draw Plasma to you automatically. Their precise values and conditions are not specified in the notes.
Rank #2
- Battle beyond the Underworld to vanquish the Titan of Time as the Princess of the Dead in this bewitching sequel to the original rogue-like dungeon crawler. Hades II lets players explore a bigger, deeper mythic world with the full might of Olympus at their call in a story that reacts to their every setback and accomplishment.
Choosing between Plasma effects
Think about whether you need Magick sustain or want effects tied to Wounds and falling blades. Grisly Gain links Plasma collection to Magick recovery; Profuse Bleeding and Sanguinary Savor connect it to offensive effects.
Because Grisly Gain’s trigger is weapon strikes, a weapon that strikes frequently may offer more opportunities to trigger it. That is an inference from the patch-note wording, not a tested ranking or guarantee: the official notes do not provide weapon-specific odds or comparative results.

Why older Plasma advice may differ
Ares arrived in the February 2025 Warsong update, and Supergiant later revised several Plasma interactions in Post-Launch Patch 2. The game launched in v1.0 on September 25, 2025, for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. Early Access instructions and older numeric claims may therefore no longer match the current version. For changes, consult Supergiant’s Warsong update notes, Post-Launch Patch 2 notes, and its v1.0 announcement.
