Half Sword is a PC Early Access game built around physics-driven medieval combat. It entered Early Access on January 30, 2026. The developer says it expects at least 6–12 months of Early Access development, and Steam cautions that Early Access games are unfinished and may change. Treat player tips—and especially exact control instructions—as advice for a particular build, not permanent rules.
The developer describes the core experience as controlling weapon swings. Mouse and keyboard and gamepad are supported, but the available information does not establish a universally better input method or a current model-specific controller compatibility list. Choose what feels natural and confirm your setup in the game.

Change one thing at a time
Try different weapons and pay attention to their mass and balance. After changing weapons, take a few practice bouts to compare how they swing and which attacks feel controllable. This makes it easier to distinguish a weapon’s handling from a mistake in your timing.
How weapon weight and balance affect your approach
The community guide reports that front-heavy swords can feel awkward to swing, hit harder on top attacks, and suit slashing better than thrusting. Treat those points as player observations, not guaranteed outcomes for every weapon or the current build. Your own practice is the best way to see whether a particular weapon’s movement works for you.

- If a weapon feels slow or difficult to redirect, try a simpler, controlled swing rather than forcing quick follow-up attacks.
- Compare overhead attacks, slashes, and thrusts in Spar; use the attack that you can control reliably with that weapon.
- Do not assume a weapon’s appearance tells you exactly how it will handle. Test its movement in the current version.
Should you use bladed weapons for fast wins?
The community guide says bladed weapons can end early fights quickly, but also warns that killing opponents may add vengeful spirits to encounters in the Abyss. That consequence is community-reported and may change; it is not established here as a guaranteed rule for every current build.
For a new player, the practical choice is whether a faster, more lethal fight is worth the progression risk described by that guide. If you are learning, use Spar to get comfortable before deciding how much risk to take in a progress run.

Where to find the controls
Open the current in-game Settings/Controls screen or key bindings and use that as your reference. Half Sword’s developer has said that controls and combat have evolved since the tech demo, and handling and balance continue to change. Older guides may list bindings that no longer match your build, so this guide does not give unverified keys.
Playing with friends: local play and Remote Play
The developer FAQ says Half Sword has split-screen co-op and 1v1, but no native online multiplayer. It suggests Steam Remote Play for playing with friends. These are different ways to play: split-screen is local, while Remote Play is Steam’s option for sharing a session remotely. Check the game’s current store page and Steam features for availability in your setup.

A simple first-session routine
- At the Inn, select Train/Spar and complete several practice bouts.
- Try a few weapons and compare how their balance affects swings and attack choices.
- Return to the current Settings/Controls screen whenever you need to confirm an input.
- When you move into progression, decide whether the community-reported Abyss risk of killing opponents affects how aggressively you want to fight.
